DEF davyne & King Delane, so excited to have you with us today. So much we can chat about, but one of the questions we are most interested in is how you have managed to keep your creativity alive.
DEF davyne- I think back to when I was just a fan, before I ever made music. I remind myself why l fell in love with HipHop in the first place, and what made me choose to be an artist. I have always made music for myself, but I feel blessed when other people enjoy it too.
King Delane- My creativity comes from daily life experiences. I’m naturally a poet, so I write about everything I see and do. I love music. It’s my life. It’s my passion. It’s my therapy. So the creativity never leaves my soul.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
DEF davyne- With unique styles reminiscent of 90s era rap and modern sounding beats, we blend the best of both worlds for an undeniably catchy sound. With skillful stage presence and original lyrics, we captivate audiences every time we perform. Our most recent album ‘Good Vibes Only’ is a blend of deeper messages, timeless sounds, and a variety of flow styles to keep listeners engaged.
King Delane- We’ve been at this for a long time. So both of our names have been around. But only in the recent years have we been known as a duo. We come from the same era, but have 2 different styles completely, which makes for the perfect blend of voices, lyrics, and stage presence that grabs attention whether you’re seeing or hearing us for the first time. We’re very versatile on each album, but our third and latest album is just a vibe. If you haven’t heard the album, go check it out!
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
DEF davyne- 3 qualities that were the most impactful on my journey would be integrity, consistency, and keeping my passion for music. Integrity has helped me develop long lasting relationships over the past couple decades, and maintain longevity in an industry that sees people come and go quickly. Consistency is hard to achieve sometimes, but staying active helps me to keep creating even on my off days. Early fans often mention how inspirational it is to see I’m still doing what I love after so many years. Keeping my passion alive fuels me, and feedback from fans and critics alike has helped me to grow over time.
King Delane- I feel that some of my best qualities are my work ethic, my resilience, and my network. I’ve been through a lot and I’ve never let it stop me. I stay consistent and relevant no matter what’s going on in life. But a big factor for me is that I network with everyone, everywhere I go. Having a big network is important for success. Side note for the up and coming artists, stay networking!
