Meet Dezzi Kamali

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Dezzi Kamali. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Dezzi, appreciate you making time for us and sharing your wisdom with the community. So many of us go through similar pain points throughout our journeys and so hearing about how others overcame obstacles can be helpful. One of those struggles is keeping creativity alive despite all the stresses, challenges and problems we might be dealing with. How do you keep your creativity alive?
I keep my creativity alive by taking myself away from the external world and turning inward towards my imagination.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
My name is Desmond but I go by Dezzi Kamali in the art world. A persona I created from visualizing what Desmond would want to be. My ideal of a greater man, brother, son, artist, etc. With this persona comes bigger goals for my life. One of those goals is to inspire and guide others into a new perspective on art and life itself. Making the unseen, seen and opening the closed minds and closed eyes.

As far as my profession goes, right now I sell original copies of my work but I would love to work with multiple major companies in a way that would allow me to be creatively free. Porsche, is one of those companies. I visualize myself making a series of art to showcase in their dealerships. I also see myself working on something incredible for the brilliant Elon Musk and his Tesla brand. I think him and I could make something very magical.

What I feel is most exciting about my brand is the ability to be versatile. Since the age of 8 (now 30 at the time of writing), I have believed that creativity is a fun experience to get to know who I am on the inside. With my brain being so scattered it has turned me in different directions while making my art. I have and continue to explore different styles and techniques to improve my overall imagination and to broaden my artwork.

Soon, I hope to launch my t-shirt business and become a big name in that space.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Discipline. Creativity.
Focus.

Discipline yourself by saying ‘no’ to unnecessary distractions and creating art even when you don’t feel like it.

Creativity comes with practice. Practice, practice, practice. Read more. Watch more. Do more.

Focus on your passion. Maintain a certain amount of awareness when you’re making your art. Consciously practice. It’ll make all the difference in your final product.

To close, maybe we can chat about your parents and what they did that was particularly impactful for you?
My mom has done so much for me. She bought every sketchbook, utensil and paid for every class I ever took. She has given me motivation to keep going and continues to be interested in what I am doing with my art.

My dad has connected me with more than several people to get me paid for my art. He has come to art shows and gave me space to create my art. Although simple, he’s also helped me put together the art desk I currently work on.

I am truly grateful for each of them.

An honorable mention is my Grandmother Ruby. A delightful soul who was always interested in what I was creating. We shared many moments together where we admired each other’s art and gave feedback. May her soul rest in paradise.
