Hi Stephanie , appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?
I’ve been told I carry a great deal of “grit” with me, most evident in my work ethic and outlook on opportunity. I’ll be honest in that this stems a great deal from my childhood. I was raised in a single-family household, after a separation from and then later death of one of my parents. The qualities and resources that I gained from navigating this experience in childhood has kept me focused on moving forward throughout my life, knowing that without a guarantee in anything except myself, resilience is the only option.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
Hennessy Photo Co is an alternative wedding photographer brand based in Colorado, with a speciality in nontraditional weddings for introverted, nerdy and offbeat couples. The focus of the brand is simple: creating an inclusive and non-judgemental space for people of all kinds who do not feel represented in society and the wedding industry as a whole, and making space for authentic documentation through mutual collaboration. The couples that work with me value honesty and trust, and true experiences over manufactured ideas and trends.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Early in my photography journey, I had a lot of confusion within myself on if I was willing to pursue this as a full-time career path and profession, but once I came to the realization that I was already overseeing businesses for other people, it finally made sense! As a former multi-family property manager, my well-rounded business, marketing, and accounting background made the transition into owning my own business much easier for me than some of my other creative peers at first. This decade of first-hand experience propelled me forward much faster than anything else I can attest to!
How can folks who want to work with you connect?
In collaboration efforts, I am always looking for other industry professionals that provide a mutual alternative outlook on the wedding industry and provide an inclusive, diverse environment and an lgbtqai+ affirming space in their business, too!
