Meet Brittney McMurray

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Brittney McMurray a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Brittney , so great to be with you and I think a lot of folks are going to benefit from hearing your story and lessons and wisdom. Imposter Syndrome is something that we know how words to describe, but it’s something that has held people back forever and so we’re really interested to hear about your story and how you overcame imposter syndrome.
Honestly, dealing with imposter syndrome is still a daily struggle for me, especially in today’s social media-driven world where it’s so easy to feel like you’re not measuring up to everyone else. But I’ve found a few things that help me keep it in check.

First off, I’ve learned to set more realistic expectations for myself. I’ve come to realize that nobody’s perfect and it’s totally okay to mess up or face challenges along the way. So, instead of aiming for perfection, I focus on setting achievable goals and celebrating even the tiniest wins.

Whenever imposter syndrome starts creeping in, I remind myself of what I’m good at and what I’ve achieved so far. I’ve got this little stash of positive quotes and affirmations that I turn to for a confidence boost whenever I need it. They help me shake off those doubts and keep pushing forward.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
Hey there! I’m Brittney McMurray, and I’m all about Disney content creation. Just before COVID hit, I dipped my toes into TikTok, hoping to find a creative outlet. At first, I stuck to mom-related content, but deep down, I wanted to share my passion for Disney. There was a bit of hesitation because, growing up, I got teased for loving Disney “too much.” But I pushed past that mental block and started sharing my Disney love, hoping to connect with others who felt the same way and couldn’t hit the parks as often as they’d like.

And you know what? I found my people. I stumbled upon a community that made me feel seen and accepted. Fast forward, and my TikTok now boasts over 73k followers.

I’m all about relatable, comedy-driven content on TikTok, and on Instagram, I enjoy giving a peek behind the scenes of my life.

The past few years have been a whirlwind of excitement, from making friends worldwide to bonding over our mutual love for Disney. This community has been my rock, and they even surprised me with a trip to Disney World – my first time! Talk about heartwarming.

Right now, my focus is on growing my community, collaborating with brands, and creating more in-park content. Disney adventures, here I come!

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
So, dedication has been a big deal for me on this journey. Sticking with it, even when things got tough or I felt like throwing in the towel, has been key. I’ve learned that dedication really pays off in the long run.

Being authentic is another biggie. Just staying true to myself, you know? Remembering what makes me, well, me! It’s all about keeping it real.

And in a world full of negativity, I’ve tried to keep the love flowing. It’s like, people just want to feel loved, you know? So, I’ve made an effort to spread some positivity wherever I go.

For those just starting out on their journey, my advice is: always do what you love. When you passionately share what you’re into, you’ll quickly connect with others who feel the same excitement. I’ve come to realize, especially now, that life’s too short to waste—it’s meant to be cherished and lived to the fullest.

All the wisdom you’ve shared today is sincerely appreciated. Before we go, can you tell us about the main challenge you are currently facing?
My biggest challenge right now is resisting the urge to compare my journey to others’. It’s easy to get caught up in wondering why mine doesn’t look like theirs. But I’ve had to remind myself that we’re all on unique paths, each with its own timeline. I firmly believe that as long as I keep putting in the effort and stay positive, amazing things are bound to come my way.
