We recently connected with Alexandra Rachelle Siclait and have shared our conversation below.
Alexandra Rachelle, we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?
I grew up and was raised in Haiti, the first free black republic. As a result of my cultural history, I have a fervor that pulses through my body. My ability to withstand difficulties and recover quickly is in my blood. However, over the last five years, I have deeply desired to channel my resilience and build a stronger mindset. Thanks to leadership coaching, I have been able to withstand difficulties and recover quickly.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I am currently leading Proteus Fund’s fiscal sponsorship practice, where I implement strategy, service coordination, business development, and stewardship for a rich ecosystem of social justice initiatives. I am passionate about forging a deep understanding of each project’s needs and providing innovative movement leaders with tailored, holistic, and comprehensive support as they work to transform our communities.
With over a decade of experience, I have worked in the corporate, nonprofit, and public sectors. However, my true passion lies in coaching and advising leaders and organizations on how to unlock their highest level of performance, scale operations, and provide strategic support through moments of change. My career portfolio includes working at Creative Capital, the City of Atlanta Mayor’s Office of Cultural Affairs, the Smithsonian’s National Museum of African American History and Culture, Meridian International Center, and Arnold & Porter, LLP.
In my most recent role as the Leadership Programs Officer at the Bush Foundation, I co-led the Bush Fellowship and Leadership Ecosystem grant programs and developed the leadership of individuals to think bigger and differently about problem-solving. I created and led the Bush Fellowship Quarterfinalist Mentorship experience, increased the organization’s capacity to coach prospective Bush Fellows, expanded the grant term of general operating support for grant partners, and strengthened the effectiveness of the Bush Fellowship Executive Coaches through strategic planning and rebranding efforts.
Before joining the Bush Foundation, I worked at Creative Capital, supporting socially engaged, forward-thinking artists grappling with pressing social issues. In partnership with the Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM), I produced an entire season of NYC-based professional development workshops, celebrating the value of over 360 individual artists annually.
What is most exciting about my work is coaching and advising artists, social justice leaders, and organizations on how to unlock their highest level of performance, scale operations, and provide strategic support through moments of change. My peers applaud my reliability and efficiency, saying I am “a forward-thinking leader” and that my expertise has “empowered teams to achieve goals and execute strategies clearly and concisely.” To learn more about my thoughts on leadership development, read my piece: “What is Large-Scale Change?”
Last year, I founded a company called Visibly Lead with a mission to help individuals match their vision with their goals, develop clarity of purpose, and focus on action, unleashing their human potential to grow, heal, and thrive. I look forward to using my Visibly Lead platform to coach entrepreneurs, artists, and social change leaders. Additionally, I am excited to return to my photography practice.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
During my journey, I have found that the three skills or areas of knowledge that have had the most significant impact on me are leadership development, self-awareness, and curiosity. Investing in my leadership development has positively influenced my ability to be more self-aware, which, in turn, has affected the way I present myself in meetings, teams, and companies. My curiosity has kept me open throughout my journey, which is why I’ve had the opportunity to live in different cities and gain valuable professional experiences.
One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
Yes! — I want to coach and mentor in any field, so if companies, universities, nonprofits, or accelerators are looking to assist entrepreneurs, artists, and creatives through mentorship and coaching, I would love to partner and collaborate.
