Meet Adino Belton

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Adino Belton. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Adino below.

Adino , so good to have you with us today. We’ve got so much planned, so let’s jump right into it. We live in such a diverse world, and in many ways the world is getting better and more understanding but it’s far from perfect. There are so many times where folks find themselves in rooms or situations where they are the only ones that look like them – that might mean being the only woman of color in the room or the only person who grew up in a certain environment etc. Can you talk to us about how you’ve managed to thrive even in situations where you were the only one in the room?
Being able to be comfortable in rooms with people who may not look like me is all about being confident in myself and being self-aware. During these last 4 years of being a business owner I realize how powerful networking and building relationships really are, I truly believe it to be one of the most important factors in having a successful business. With me being in the flooring and carpeting industry it is imperative that I build relationships with fellow business owners, homeowners, realtors and property managers just to name a few. The flooring and carpeting industry is a necessity for most Americans, most of us either have houses, apartments, warehouses or some type of buildings that require the services of a company like Carpet Champs LLC. The real test was getting out and finding these potential clients, and once these potential clients are found how can I get them to trust my company? Most of the events, social gatherings, and outings that I have been attending are filled with people who are more experienced than me, some are a lot older, and some come from a different walk of life than me. One thing I notice that we all have in common is that we all are joined by the will and determination to succeed, and the ones who have obtained a nice level of success are willing to help another reach that level. I was raised in an urban area with little to no success stories, and a lot of people who were in a similar position to me are intimidated by people who don’t look like them. It is my belief that people are afraid to be uncomfortable, vulnerable or are afraid to ask for help because of what one may think. Me personally, I wasn’t going to let any doubt or uncertainty hold me back. When I’m in these rooms I make it my duty to introduce myself and acknowledge the other guests, I want to figure out their stories, I want to know what moves and motivates them. I want to know what their thought processes are. I want to know what good habits they’ve adopted to get to this point, and I want to know what bad habits they had to rid themselves of. I want to know the habits of people who have success, and what keeps them successful, the only way to accomplish that is to be around successful people. Understanding that the only way to success is to surround yourself with success has helped me tremendously. Once you have a service to offer people, I realize that being in these rooms having discussions aren’t hard at all and sooner or later it will become second nature. My advice to anyone struggling to get out of their comfort zone, and to meet new people who could be beneficial for the future they want. Don’t be intimidated by one’s success, most successful people want to help other people reach success. You will never know the power in relationships until you start building the right ones.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I am the owner and founder of Carpet Champs LLC, a commercial and residential cleaning service that specializes in flooring & carpeting we also offer upholstery cleaning services. I love the work that I do, I love to see the satisfaction of a client once they have received work from my company. The number one thing that drives me is the will to succeed and to transform my business into a multimillion-dollar company. I have always been a person who likes to excel at anything I choose to do & being able to run a business allows me to put that motivated energy to use every day. I am a family man who loves God, even though I don’t have a wife or children of my own I have 7 siblings and 5 nieces and nephews who keep me grounded. Coming from a big family, relationships have always been important to me, and it allows me to bring that same family feel to any client’s home or business I may be servicing. I am active in the community that I reside, and just recently have been attending events with a highly esteemed Congressman of Maryland to better street safety. Aside from running a business and helping the community I am also a dog owner with a great passion for helping animals, one day I am planning on opening up an animal shelter for abandoned or mistreated pets. I am enjoying this journey of life and I hope all the readers are enjoying their journeys as well. I hope this allows you to understand more about me, my company (Carpet Champs LLC), and what drives and motivates me to succeed.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
The three most important qualities that has had the greatest impact on me through this journey so far has been discipline, consistency and determination. Learning to be disciplined is probably the most important quality, discipline holds me accountable it doesn’t accept my excuses, my complaints or anything other negative feeling that I may have at times. Discipline forces me to get things done even when I don’t feel like it. Consistency is a quality that is needed. Consistency keeps me working, it keeps my priorities front and center, and it also helps me to keep fresh ideas that are needed to promote and market my company. Determination is a quality that comes naturally once you adopt discipline and consistency into your life. Determination keeps your focus on the tasks, determination forces you to complete a goal and keeps you excited for your journey. If a person is having a hard time staying disciplined my sole advice would be to join a local gym, the gym is what did it for me. There are numerous qualities that one can adopt and add to their own lives or journeys, those three helped me the most.

Before we go, any advice you can share with people who are feeling overwhelmed?
Great question, feeling overwhelmed is something that happens to everyone whether you are a school student, employee or a business owner. The feeling of being overwhelmed usually happens when there are so many responsibilities, tasks and or feelings that seem to pile on at once. People have different beliefs and no, I’m not here to recruit anyone to a religion, but what I can say is prayer is my first option. Anytime I feel overwhelmed or unsure, prayer is what I turn to first. Another strategy that has helped me tremendously is to just prioritize. A Lot of times we feel overwhelmed is because we don’t prioritize what needs to be done, and it seems like it’s a never-ending list of “things to do”. Being able to organize and write down tasks that needs to be done always makes things easier. Usually after writing things out, you realize that it’s really not that bad, and things can be handled with a plan and organization. So don’t get overwhelmed, rather prioritize and watch how easier things become.
