Meet Beatrice

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Beatrice. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Hi Beatrice, thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?
My work ethic comes from me seeing my mother get up every morning or evening and head to work. Even on days when she wasn’t feeling her best. Also having to do chores around the house instilled that work ethic as well.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I’m the oldest of the three girls and twelve grandchildren. The mother of two sons D’Adrian and Jay’don, aunt to two nieces and three nephews, and Godmother of 5. I’m very family oriented and love to host family dinners that keeps us a cohesive unit. My friends tell me all the time that my family reminds them of the movie Soul Food because we are always getting together and making memories.

Baking started off as a hobby. I was always baking for our office parties or fundraisers at work. One day at work one of my coworkers stated that i should start making desserts and selling them and the rest is history.

What excites me is the actual designing of the cakes and cupcakes. Preparing different flavor cookies, brownies, cobblers, and banana puddings. Dipping and making chocolate covered strawberries, marshmallows, and pretzels turning them from plain to something beautiful. Seeing the amazement on the faces of my clients at the finish product(s) brings joy to my heart. Baking relaxes me and I just love it.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Being creative, adaptable by thinking outside the box, and imagining the vision of my clients. My willingness to learn and expand my horizons. And always being a person of true ethical integrity from beginning to end.

Before we go, maybe you can tell us a bit about your parents and what you feel was the most impactful thing they did for you?
My mother my rock Jacqueline (Jackie) raised me and my two sisters as a single mother and might I add done a wonderful job. We were not allowed to say “I can’t” we had to say “I’ll give it my best or I’ll figure it out”. She often stated “nothing beats a failure but a try”. I thank her for that because I wasn’t good at first with frosting or designing in the beginning. I kept at it and continued to get better one cake at a time. I could always hear her in the back of my head saying giving up is not an option so keep pushing.
