Meet Arsh Pal

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Arsh Pal. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Hi Arsh , you’ve got such an interesting story, but before we jump into that, let’s first talk about a topic near and dear to us – generosity. We think success, happiness and wellbeing depends on authentic generosity and empathy and so we’d love to hear about how you become such a generous person – where do you think your generosity comes from?
When I was younger, I used to go along with my mom to her workplace. She was an occupational therapist and worked at a nursing home. I used to talk to the seniors there and it made them feel happy and they smiled. This made me feel good because I knew I liked to help people. When I was deciding what to do with the money, I got from selling paintings I made I knew I wanted to help someone. This made me donate to St. Jude Research Hospital.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I started painting when I was eight years old. I began to learn new techniques and get better and better. I decided to sell my paintings and donate the money to charity. I decided to do this every year forward. I also went to a nursing home and taught the nursing home residents, painting lessons. I did this many times a year and is very enjoyable. Now I have donated over $17,000 to different charities such as St. Jude Research Hospital, Easter Seals, Compass to Care, Make a Wish Foundation, and the Riverview Center. My future goal is to make art lessons accessible for younger kids. I am a board member of a non-profit organization called the “Loukoumi Foundation”. In this program, we learn to do good things in the community.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Throughout my journey, I have learned to be patient, kind, and to be respectful. This has taught me to be kind to others by doing anything for them. This includes small acts of kindness. It does not have to be, money it can be something to brighten someone’s day. You can use your time and skills to help the community. I have learned to be patient by teaching art lessons to different age groups. When I teach art lessons, I must be patient with people who are slow and are not able to hear well. This is an important skill to know because it can help me in the future.

To close, maybe we can chat about your parents and what they did that was particularly impactful for you?
My parents have supported me throughout my journey. They have played a significant role in my journey; without them, I would not be where I am. They have helped me by doing many things like organizing/coordinating, marketing, and setting up art galleries and displaying my artworks. My mom is my art teacher and learns along with me as I go along. She is always there for me and supports and criticizes my work. My parents teach me that we should not just live for ourselves, and because we are all connected in some way, we must help each other
