Meet Ridhi Bhalla

We recently connected with Ridhi Bhalla and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Ridhi, you’ve got such an interesting story, but before we jump into that, let’s first talk about a topic near and dear to us – generosity. We think success, happiness and wellbeing depends on authentic generosity and empathy and so we’d love to hear about how you become such a generous person – where do you think your generosity comes from?
My generosity comes from my own experiences and difficulties in life. With a deeper understanding of myself I am able to empathise and express my feelings towards other people. When people share their experiences and emotions with me I am able to understand that everybody goes through their own challenges and it gives me a broader perspective in life that I am not the only one struggling and it helps me to feel less isolated from the world. Everybody has something on their plate and with love and compassion we can all help each other and sail smoothly through the ocean of life.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I am a filmmaker. I am currently pursuing my masters degree in film production with an emphasis in cinematography at Dodge College of Film and Media Arts at Chapman University. I have an interest in documentary filmmaking and I like to share stories of people and other living beings to help the world understand things from various perspectives. My goal in life is to help form a large community of people who are understanding and compassionate towards the world around us and I believe storytelling is one of the best means of achieving this purpose.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Hard work, patience and passion have been the three pillars of my success so far. I believe with these three qualities any individual can achieve what they set their mind to. Passion is what fuels your desire to pursue your dreams, hard work is what keeps you focused and disciplined to put those dreams into action, and patience is what it takes to continually work without instant gratification. If you are not worried about achieving the benefits of the outcome instantly then you are going to stick to your plans and keep working forward. Once you are able to understand this aspect of life, the benefits of your patience and dedication are always higher than what you could have even imagined in the beginning.

Alright so to wrap up, who deserves credit for helping you overcome challenges or build some of the essential skills you’ve needed?
My parents and my sister have always been my biggest cheerleaders. They have always believed in me and have given me advice to help overcome my doubts and fears and pursue my dreams. I am blessed to be privileged enough to be able to go after my goals without any guilt or regrets. If it wasn’t for their unwavering support and encouragement I wouldn’t have been able to come so far.

Another individual who has taught me the value of hard work and patience is my grandfather. He was an exceptionally dedicated and ambitious person and because of his ability to work hard I am able to reach where I am. I will always be indebted to him for everything I accomplish.
