Meet Shojuan Spence

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Shojuan Spence. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Shojuan below.

Shojuan, we’ve been so fortunate to work with so many incredible folks and one common thread we have seen is that those who have built amazing lives for themselves are also often the folks who are most generous. Where do you think your generosity comes from?
I have always been a very generous person. From spending money, to being there for people, or even just lending an ear. Therefore i believe that my generosity comes from my heart. I have a big heart with so much positivity to share.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I love food. I have dreamed about being a chef my entire life, however i have not always believed in myself to do so. In the midst of the pandemic it left me wondering what i could do to improve the quality of the world, and with tons of self doubt and support from my closest friends Shoji’s Kitchen was born. Shoji’s Kitchen is my business name and is a representation of how i want my restaurant to run, no matter what, i will be apart of the kitchen even with me being the owner. I do personal chef services, i create menu’s and deliver to your door, i do catering, anything you can think of we have here at Shoji’s!

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Well the ability to create is a major skill. Not being able to make a vision come to life would make what i do virtually impossible.

Being able to believe in yourself is another quality that is mandatory. If you are not confident in your skills it will reflect in the art you create.

And obviously the ability to cook, which i have 100 percent developed on my own, while my father is my inspiration. I used to sit and watch him cook and haven’t stopped since.

Improving these skills is not an easy task, however the best way to improve them is acknowledging that they need improving to begin with. If you know or learn anything all it takes is understanding of what you do and do not understand.

Before we go, maybe you can tell us a bit about your parents and what you feel was the most impactful thing they did for you?
The most impactful thing that my parents have done for me is abandon me. The lack of love and care from both my parents caused me to find myself and understand what it is to have a dream and actually chase and obtain it.
