Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Candace Williams. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Candace, thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?
I definitely think I get my work ethic from both of my parents. My mom started working at the age 13 all the up to the day she was able to retire. And my pops built his business from the ground up and still works in the field to this day at the stealthy age of 71. I’m grateful they both showed me the importance of working everyday.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
When it comes to work, I appreciate variety, so I actually have (3) jobs. I’m a San Diego Wax Specialist at European Wax Center in Clairmont and I absolutely love it. I would say it’s probably the most instantly gratifying job I could ask for. I also work for my Dad’s company, Coltrane Fire Protection, Inc. which is a local small business he’s had for about 30 years. I work right under him in the office taking care of pretty much anything he needs me to do. Which is a lot when you’re working in a family business because you have to do everything to run it. Lastly, I have my own small business called Skin Fetish where I do facials and skin care on my free time. It’s definitely a hustle out here, but it works for me.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
I would say my customer service skills, my patience with people in the workplace and scheduling have all impacted my life’s journey. If I had to give anyone advice in improving any of these skills, it would be to understand there are many different personalities out there. Learn that people don’t always need to agree but still respect the opinions and suggestions of others. And always be teachable.
What was the most impactful thing your parents did for you?
My mom always said “Don’t live beyond your means” and my Pops always stressed the importance of saving your money which has encouraged me to work hard and be financially smart and independent.
