Meet Michael Walsh

We recently connected with Michael Walsh and have shared our conversation below.

Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Michael with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?
I love what I do. And my clients are great, talented and creative people. My feeling is that if I want to get more clients and have clients refer me to others, I need to over deliver. It just brings me joy and a great sense of self respect to do absolutely the best job I can and to make my clients extremely satisfied.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I have created a really great recording studio in my home called The Smooth Spot. The name of my business guides me with my mission. Every day, I am always looking at ways of making sure the studio experience goes as smoothly as possible for my clients. I have worked with many Broadway composers, song writers, singers and voice over artists. I record audio and I also create video and edit it for clients. I also have worked as a musical director for the Castillo Theatre in New York for many years. Currently, I just finished a play as musical director out in Sedona and I am working on another play doing sound design. I love working with singers and actors and the director to help them accomplish the musical goals for whatever project I am working on. I first came to New York to pursue a theater career as an actor/singer. I sang and acted in many musicals and I think this background helps me relate to and understand what a performer is experiencing when they are creating in my studio. Recently, I have started teaching voice and found that I enjoy it and I am good at it. Great to see students grow. I play the piano and have worked in piano bars and at parties for many years. I love entertaining and finding just the right songs for any occasion. I suppose I do a lot of different things and that makes me happy because I love to perform and I am also fascinated by all of the audio and video technology.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Number 1: Understanding music: I have spent a lifetime in music, playing, singing and recording and my skills help me with everything I do.

Number 2: Computer and technology: I have always been fascinated by computers and what they can do, especially with music and video. This is an innate skill that I have always had from a very young age.

Number 3: People skills: From all my years of performing, I know how important it is for my clients to feel comfortable and at ease to give their best performance.

How can folks who want to work with you connect?
I would love to collaborate with theater directors and filmmakers to create sound design for their projects. I love this kind of composition.

I think I have found and fixed all the mistakes and above is accurate.
