We recently connected with Dylan Dahle and have shared our conversation below.
Dylan, we’re so excited for our community to get to know you and learn from your journey and the wisdom you’ve acquired over time. Let’s kick things off with a discussion on self-confidence and self esteem. How did you develop yours?
As an up-and-coming real estate agent with nothing but the tools at my feet, my journey towards developing confidence and self-esteem has been one heck of a transformation. Growing up, I was incredibly shy, often retreating into the safety of the sidelines rather than stepping into the spotlight. My self-doubt and fear of judgment held me back from embracing opportunities and expressing my true potential.
However, my high school theater class became the catalyst for change. What I once thought was an easy A elective turned into the single most important learning experience I ever could have had. I learned the art of stepping out of my comfort zone and embracing vulnerability through countless auditions, rehearsals, and performances. Each role I portrayed demanded a level of confidence and self-assurance that I had to find somewhere and cultivate to the level of perfection that was required. I discovered that behind the mask of a character, I could find the courage to express myself authentically.
As I immersed myself in the world of real estate, I carried with me the invaluable lessons from those high school and collegiate theater days. The stage was my training ground, where I honed my communication skills, learned to think on my feet, and developed a commanding presence. The transition from timid introvert to confident extrovert was gradual, yet profound.
Public speaking, once a daunting prospect, became second nature as I channeled the same energy and charisma that I infused into my performances, both on stage and on screen. Whether presenting properties to clients or networking at industry events, I exuded a newfound confidence that resonated with others. I learned to embrace my strengths, celebrate my accomplishments, and confront my insecurities head-on. This journey is a testament to the transformative power of self-belief and the boundless potential that lies within each of us, waiting to be unleashed.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Reflecting on my journey, these skills have been particularly impactful:
- Communication Skills: Effective communication has been essential in building relationships with clients, negotiating, and collaborating with industry
professionals. Whether it’s articulating ideas, active listening (two ears, one mouth), or conveying complex information in a clear and concise manner, honing
communication skills has been crucial. Continuous practice and seeking feedback from mentors and peers have been instrumental in refining these skills.
Advice: Early in your journey, prioritize improving your communication skills. Practice speaking confidently and articulately, both in formal settings and casual conversations. Hell, I practiced every pitch or speech in a mirror, which is an incredible way to both critique and celebrate yourself. Seek opportunities for public speaking, join networking groups, and don’t shy away from asking for feedback to identify areas for improvement.
- Adaptability: The real estate industry is dynamic and ever-changing, requiring adaptability to navigate market fluctuations, evolving technology, and shifting client needs. Being open to learning new strategies, embracing change, and staying ahead of industry trends has been essential in staying competitive and thriving in this field.
Advice: Embrace change as an opportunity for growth rather than a setback. Stay curious and continuously seek opportunities to learn and adapt. Attend workshops, seminars, and industry conferences to stay informed about the latest trends and technologies shaping the real estate landscape. No one particularly likes change, but you can be the pioneer if you’re willing to try to learn skills and tools that others won’t touch until they absolutely have to.
- Resilience: Real estate is a challenging and demanding industry; that being the case, it requires resilience to overcome setbacks, rejection, and obstacles along the way. Developing a resilient mindset, maintaining a positive attitude, and staying focused on long-term goals have been crucial in navigating the highs and lows of this profession.
Advice: Cultivate resilience by developing coping mechanisms to manage stress and setbacks effectively. Surround yourself with a supportive network of mentors, colleagues, and friends/family who can provide encouragement and a bird’s-eye perspective during challenging times. Focus on maintaining a healthy work life balance.
Awesome, really appreciate you opening up with us today and before we close maybe you can share a book recommendation with us. Has there been a book that’s been impactful in your growth and development?
“Unbroken,” the incredible story of World War II pilot and Olympic distance runner Louis Zamperini, has always been a source of inspiration and valuable life lessons for me. I read this book once a year, if not more, to center myself and as a reminder that it’s never as good or as bad as it seems, whatever “it” may be. Among the biggest takeaways, in my opinion, are as follows:
– Resilience: Zamperini’s unwavering resilience in the face of unimaginable hardships is inspiring beyond words. From surviving a plane crash at sea to enduring torture and deprivation as a prisoner of war, Zamperini’s ability to persevere through the darkest of times teaches us the power of the human spirit and the importance of never giving up, no matter how dire the circumstances.
– Forgiveness and Redemption: Despite the cruelty and suffering he faced at the hands of his captors, Zamperini’s capacity for forgiveness is a testament to the transformative power of compassion and grace. This trait demonstrates the healing and liberating nature of forgiveness, and serves as a powerful reminder that letting go of anger and resentment can lead to inner peace and redemption.
– The Pursuit of Purpose: Throughout his ordeal as a pilot in one of the most dangerous eras of aviation, being lost at sea, and being a prisoner of war for years, Zamperini remained steadfast in his pursuit of purpose and meaning, drawing strength from his memories of resilience and determination as an Olympian, but also from his initial grit formed on the streets of Torrance, CA. His story teaches the importance of finding purpose in our lives, even in the midst of adversity, and reminds us that our experiences, both triumphs and tribulations, can shape and define our sense of purpose and identity.
I would highly recommend picking up a copy of “Unbroken” by Laura Hillenbrand. No matter where you are in life, in the highest of highs or in the lowest of lows, this book will change how you look at life. It is a testament to the unconquerable human spirit, resilience in the face of adversity, the power of forgiveness, and the pursuit of purpose. Louis Zamperini’s extraordinary story continues to inspire and impart valuable life lessons to readers around the world, including myself, and there’s a reason for that.
