We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Wen-Chia Chang. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Wen-Chia below.

Wen-Chia, appreciate you making time for us and sharing your wisdom with the community. So many of us go through similar pain points throughout our journeys and so hearing about how others overcame obstacles can be helpful. One of those struggles is keeping creativity alive despite all the stresses, challenges and problems we might be dealing with. How do you keep your creativity alive?
I keep my creativity alive by actively seeking inspiration from the richness of daily life experiences and various aspects that surround us. I find that the ordinary moments and interactions in our lives can be profound sources of creativity. Observing the world around me, engaging with diverse people, and encountering unexpected moments all shape my perspective and influence my design choices.

Moreover, I have a deep admiration for visually stunning elements, drawing inspiration from various sources such as games, cinematography, and other design elements. Immersing myself in the captivating graphics of games, the artistry of cinematography, and the intricate details of design elements sparks my imagination and fuels my creative spirit.

I believe that anything has the potential to be the foundation of creative ideas. It’s essential to stimulate the brain by staying open to the possibilities offered by our surroundings. By embracing this mindset, I ensure that my creativity remains dynamic and adaptable. Whether it’s extraordinary in the ordinary or the visual allure of different mediums, each source contributes to a continuous wellspring of ideas, allowing me to bring a fresh and innovative approach to my design work.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I’ve had the privilege of receiving tremendous support, mentorship, and valuable advice throughout my journey as a graphic designer. My collaborative approach involves working closely with highly skilled professionals across various disciplines, including packaging, marketing, and industrial design, to create visually compelling graphics and innovative marketing campaigns. By leveraging the power of visual storytelling, I aim to provide a cohesive and engaging experience for our customers.

What excites me most about graphic design is the ability to bring ideas to life, whether on-screen or through hands-on craftsmanship. One of the most rewarding experiences is seeing a project come to fruition, especially when it involves a tangible, physical product. I find great joy in the meticulous process of creating something that goes beyond the digital realm and can be held and appreciated in the real world.

I am currently excited to manage my photography Instagram account, capturing and documenting unique moments through my lens. Simultaneously, I am engaged in continuing to refine my skills and collaborating with exceptionally talented individuals worldwide. This opportunity allows me to contribute my unique perspective to the world of sports branding while learning and growing alongside some of the industry’s best. I believe that we can collectively achieve design excellence and make a lasting impact by pushing boundaries and embracing new challenges.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Reflecting on my creative journey, three qualities that significantly impacted my growth as a graphic designer are building meaningful connections, meticulous attention to detail, and fostering a curious mindset.

Looking back, I wish I had made more connections with people earlier in my creative journey. Like, genuinely getting interested in their stories and learning from them has been inspiring and has expanded my perspective more than any online resource ever could. It takes time to meet those fantastic friends or mentors who take you to the next level in your career, but every connection has its value. So, it’s essential to cherish the relationships that bring you joy and allow you to share your passions.

The second thing I’ve learned the most from talented people in the industry is paying attention to detail. When we have been working on something for a long time, it’s easy to overlook small mistakes in the work. However, when it happens, it is either a typo, slight alignment issue, or missing information; all people can see is that small mistake. This is the factor that distinguishes the average from great craftsmanship. Paying attention to detail in every aspect is definitely a valuable lesson to help me learn and grow.

Lastly, is being curious about new things. We live in a world where technology has changed dramatically every day, and it is important to keep up with what is coming, what the trends are, what technologies are the latest, and how we can have them involved in our design process. Simply seeking inspiration and curiosity about other people’s stories also helps broaden my perspectives, make a connection, build a friendship with others, and even lead to collaborations. These are the lessons I learned, and they best describe what I wanna be as a designer.

What was the most impactful thing your parents did for you?
The most impactful thing my parents did for me was the inspiration I received from my mom. She played a pivotal role in shaping my creative mindset by instilling in me a love for exploring new ideas and embracing different perspectives. From an early age, she exposed me to influential movies like Star Wars, which captivated my imagination and fueled my curiosity.

Growing up, I developed a passion for gaming, drawn to the visually stunning designs, interfaces, and art within the gaming world. This experience became a significant influence that shaped me into the designer I am today. My mom’s encouragement to stay curious and explore various creative avenues nurtured my desire to create and innovate.

As I delved into the world of design, these early influences remained strong. I continued to develop my design talents, naturally gravitating towards career paths that allowed me to follow these creative pursuits. The impact of my mom’s guidance resonates throughout my journey as a designer, inspiring me to approach each project with a sense of curiosity, open-mindedness, and a passion for exploring new possibilities.
