We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Carmen Blyden a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Carmen, so great to have you with us and we want to jump right into a really important question. In recent years, it’s become so clear that we’re living through a time where so many folks are lacking self-confidence and self-esteem. So, we’d love to hear about your journey and how you developed your self-confidence and self-esteem.
I developed my confidence and self-esteem by taking a simple yet powerful step: saying YES to myself. For too long, I prioritized the needs of others over my own. I allowed external opinions to overshadow my self-perception and influence my choices. While struggling with my mental health, I realized it was time for a change, a change that required me to put my own needs, aspirations and desires first.
I used my yes to affirm my needs, dreams, life vision, and goals. It was through this process of self-affirmation that I discovered parts of myself that I never knew existed. I discovered new passions, hidden talents and gifts that had been waiting for recognition. Each YES to myself unveiled new layers of self-awareness, ultimately leading me to the realization of my purpose.
With every YES, my confidence grew stronger, increasing my belief in myself and my capabilities. My YES to myself was the catalyst for personal growth and empowerment.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
I believe that one of my most important qualities on this journey was curiosity. I’ve never been comfortable with mediocrity, I always sought ways to learn more and unlock new levels in every area of my life.
My most important skill was knowing how to pivot during change or in challenging times and not being afraid to make a decision. I believe this is a valuable skill to possess because without it, you can find yourself stuck in situations like careers, relationships and mindsets that don’t serve your higher self.
My most valuable area of knowledge is offer love and respect to everyone. This was instilled in me by my grandmother and has contributed to me fostering some of the most meaningful and transformational relationships that has aided in my personal and professional development.
I encourage you to look within to identify your strengths and then think about how you can leverage those strengths to achieve your goals.
