Meet Sophia Dashing

We were lucky to catch up with Sophia Dashing recently and have shared our conversation below.

Sophia, looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?
Ever since I was young, I was passionate about what I’m doing now. I’ve always loved singing, dancing and performing. Of course as a child, it starts as a care-free passion and as you age into an adult it’s all about “How can I make my dreams into a reality?” With that, I understand how hard it is to break into the entertainment industry, especially as an independent artist. I strive to work as a hard as I can each and every day and continuously learn new things to better myself and get out there more as an artist! You have to be your own biggest cheerleader and keep your drive on 100 at all times.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
My name is Sophia Dashing, I am an independent up & coming artist based out of Atlanta, GA! I released my sixth single, “Still in Love” on February 3rd, 2023. It’s an R&B power-ballad about the conflicting feelings and pain that come with ending a relationship with someone that you still are in love with. I’ve been singing and dancing since I was six years old and each day I wake up and do what I love, I am chasing my dreams! This summer, I am releasing my seventh single, and announcements will be coming soon! I’m super excited for new upcoming performances, and music. This year is going to be great!

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
My biggest advice for any artist who’s early in their journey is to learn, learn, learn! Wake up every day and use the day to expand in artist development, and educate yourself on the business side. Find ways to expand your brand and business on your own, because ultimately you need to be your biggest cheerleader in this game!

Alright, so before we go we want to ask you to take a moment to reflect and share what you think you would do if you somehow knew you only had a decade of life left?
As an independent artist, it can be challenging bridging the gap with social media and branding. Sometimes it can feel like you’ve made such good content, videos etc. and it can feel like “not enough” if it doesn’t do well, or it’s not reaching enough people. It’s a challenge so many artists face who do this independently, but what I continue to tell myself is consistency is key! As long as I’m doing what I love, I’m happy. It’s key to celebrate the small victories as well! So if your Tiktok or Reel gets 50 likes, celebrate that! Any growth IS growth.
