We were lucky to catch up with Superstar Symone recently and have shared our conversation below.
Superstar, so great to have you with us and we want to jump right into a really important question. In recent years, it’s become so clear that we’re living through a time where so many folks are lacking self-confidence and self-esteem. So, we’d love to hear about your journey and how you developed your self-confidence and self-esteem.
With time. As a child I was a singer/performer but I was completely unaware of it. My mother saw it in me so she used to have me put on small performances for her and friends. I also have a best friend since 8 yrs of age who also helped me exercise my craft. It was all building up to the person I was becoming. I kept at the talent and I continued to exercise the gift and it came into fruition. I also believed the positive things people said about my gift of song I.E. “keep singing”, Keep going” “You can/will make it” “If God did it for them, he’ll do it for you too”
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I am a natural born singer! I pursue music and have a passion for acting. I feel most exciting that I am stepping fully into adulthood and starting to settle in what it is I really want to do with my life and career. I pursue my dream job of singing/acting while working my back up career/dream job in hospitality. I am most excited to see where the pursuit will take me in the year 2024. I have more ideas on how I will pursue my dreams this year. I am trying a different approach and working with new people in the industry that can help my journey be even more successful. Moreover, I plan to own a home this year, so I am most excited about whether I can meet my down payment goal within the time frame I have given myself. My 1st performance this year was a gig I booked at a hotel property which has always been a place I have wanted to perform. I work in the hotel industry and I feel at home in hotels which is ironic, because hotels are where people go to get away from home. But they have actually been where I have spent most of my life working.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
My skill is the gift of song that’s a given. I am very knowledgeable when it comes to hospitality, I hold a master’s degree in Int’l hospitality management. I believe I have several great qualities to include creativity, ambition, confidence, honesty, enthusiasm, loyalty, and dependability. All these qualities have been recognize and continue to take me further and further. The best advice I have to give someone who is starting early on is to save your money incest in yourself and network as much as possible! Relationships and connections are a must to have. Definitely, be humble and easy going and grateful for helping hands.
Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
I am always looking for people to collaborate with. I want to work with producers and engineers with somewhat of a higher caliber. But, also someone that I can bargain with or afford to work with as well. I have found that it is difficult finding someone you can truly afford so I wanted to specify that part. I also want people that reach out and try to initially connect with me to understand that they want to work with me as much as I want to work with them so don’t try to break the bank down with outrageous prices. Try to meet me in the middle of the level I am at, at this moment in life and lets try to go higher together!
