Meet Kumaar Family

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Kumaar Family a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Kumaar Family, so happy you were able to devote some time to sharing your thoughts and wisdom with our community. So, we’ve always admired how you have seemingly never let nay-sayers or haters keep you down. Can you talk to us about how to persist despite the negative energy that so often is thrown at folks trying to do something special with their lives?
We understand that everyone is free to express their opinions. For us as public figures, we do take in constructive criticism & thank them for sharing their thoughts. But for malicious or base-less feedback, we have developed a conscious approach to ignore them because we know for a fact that most of these are coming from strangers who know so little about us, so why should we believe the negative things that they say?

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
This is Logesh & Rachel from the Kumaar Family! We create contents on YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, and Facebook, showcasing our daily life as an interracial family with our 2 sons. Our contents are all about bridging cultural differences and bringing everyone together through our story & hope it inspires our audience.

We are based in San Francisco, but we often visit Malaysia (to Logesh’s hometown) to travel around the country, learn new things, eat good food, all while also promoting this underrated country in South East Asia.

Besides creating content, we are also embarking on new entrepreneurial opportunities so that we can help talents grow together with us, expand our revenue, and explore our creative skills! Stay tuned for more of that to come.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Authenticity is the key to creating relevance among our audience. What you see us do online is who we are in real life, so we don’t put up an ‘online personality’ to appear more appealing. We are not special people, we are your regular American & Asian family next door, and that’s what you can expect on our contents.

Discipline is essential to keep you going. It’s easy to give up when you see the results are unfavorable, the views are low, or there are so many negative comments. It’s also easy to feel overwhelmed having to shoot & edit videos, it’s not an easy job as people may think it is. So discipline will help you focus on what you need to do, have a plan on what to shoot next, when you need the content to go up, how long will it take for you to edit, etc.

Enjoy it. Seriously, becoming a content creator is no fun at all when you don’t enjoy what you’re doing. And it will show on camera. So have fun, do contents that you love, don’t try to be someone else & enjoy the ride.

Alright so to wrap up, who deserves credit for helping you overcome challenges or build some of the essential skills you’ve needed?
We are each other’s support system. Because it’s the two of us (Logesh & Rachel), we know when to start and when to stop. We know when one of us is not feeling it, or is really into it, so we support each other to make sure it works for both of us.

Besides that, our kids are also our strength to move forward. Without them, we might not be where we are today & we are doing this for us as a family.

Our audience also plays an important role – we engage directly with them & they have provided us with feedback and suggestions for us to become better content creators.
