Meet Alessandra Torresani

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Alessandra Torresani . We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Alessandra , we are so deeply grateful to you for opening up about your journey with mental health in the hops that it can help someone who might be going through something similar. Can you talk to us about your mental health journey and how you overcame or persisted despite any issues? For readers, please note this is not medical advice, we are not doctors, you should always consult professionals for advice and that this is merely one person sharing their story and experience.
I was Diagnosed with Bipolar 1 Disorder when I was 22 years old. living with a mental illness can be extremely isolating only until a few years ago were people open having discussions around mental health and mental illness and slowly but surely the world is becoming stigma free. I’ve been very lucky being able to share my personal story with others, who understand the struggles around mental illnesses. I started my podcast EmotionAL Support with the intention of sharing the battles of my ups and downs. Never in 1 million years that I think I would meet such incredible, powerful and beautiful souls who have been so open and honest with their own mental health.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

For as long as I can, remember, I’ve had the title of being a performer. I’ve been an actor for over 25 years and many films and television shows.. I even had the honor of producing projects and allowing myself to explore other creative outlets. I created and host my podcast EmotionAL Support that started as a mental health podcast and has evolved into so much more. As a mom of a 19 month old daughter named Lady, I now share my own personal experiences of motherhood from postpartum anxiety to owning this new role of Mom.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
I am a firm believer in hard work and following your intuition. if you feel passionate and drive towards a career path like being an actor, just know it’s not going to be an easy one but it’s sure going to be a fabulous ride! Rejection is that can’t be taught, it can only be learned through experience. Movement is such an important part of being an actor, so I love to share some advice…. take a dance class, move your body, be in touch with your inner soul!

Any advice for folks feeling overwhelmed?
I feel overwhelmed, quite a lot since becoming a mother. I know I’m not alone in this feeling. Whenever I’m feeling drained, exhausted or simply, I have no idea what to do, I take a deep breath and remember it’s all going to be OK. I’m a firm believer in meditation, something that can be very hard with children around all the time, but even if it’s two minutes, I will sit in my thoughts, take a deep breath and be still for that moment.
