Meet Miasha Gilliam-El

We recently connected with Miasha Gilliam-El and have shared our conversation below.

Miasha, so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?
I was able to truly discover my purpose in 2012 after my near death experience due to Pregnancy Induced Cardiomyopathy. Before this incident happened I always thought my purpose was to be a nurse and assist others through empathetic, authentic, and effective care. Once I experienced my near death experience I understood my purpose was much deeper. My purpose is to tell my story and highlight the fact that miracles are still happening around us every day and that there is nothing impossible for God as well as to bring awareness to this life threatening disorder called Peripartum Cardiomyopathy.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I am Dr. Miasha “MIMI” Gilliam-El is a 3x Best-Selling Author, International Speaker, Advocate for PPCM (Peripardum Cardiomyopathy)Survivors, Advocate against Domestic Violence & Childhood Molestation, Pastor of Transitional Minds International Ministry, Executive Producer of the short film “Miracles Of Life .” I share my testimony of how I survived Domestic Violence, Childhood Molestation and how I was given a second chance at life after having her heart stop for 10 minutes in Feb. 2012 due to Pregnancy Induced Cardiomyopathy(PPCM). I am looking to continue to join with others through my organization PPCM Healthy Hearts and advocate for mothers suffering in silence from various cardiac diseases during pregnancy. I enjoy teaching the importance of changing your thoughts and the impact it has on changing your life.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
I believe three important qualities are consistency, resilience, accountability and experience.

My advice would be to never give up on your dream. Be consistent in your efforts and resilient through the tough times. Always be accountable for your decisions and honor and respect your life experiences.

You can always improve these by always being your authentic self.

To close, maybe we can chat about your parents and what they did that was particularly impactful for you?
Looking back one of the most impactful things my mother did for me was ensuring I always understood the importance of being my authentic self, never allowing others to minimize the importance of my contributions.
