We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Beau Meadows . We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Beau below.
Beau , so great to be with you and I think a lot of folks are going to benefit from hearing your story and lessons and wisdom. Imposter Syndrome is something that we know how words to describe, but it’s something that has held people back forever and so we’re really interested to hear about your story and how you overcame imposter syndrome.
I think the biggest thing that helped to overcome imposter syndrome was continuing to show up day after day and put in your best effort. There are going to be days where you feel like you are in someone else’s shoes or you are in way over your head, but you have to push those thoughts to the back of your head and continue to move forward step after step.
Some strategies that were helpful to me were to focus on short term over long term goals, and to make sure these goals were realistic. Focusing on the long term goal, or end result, can sometimes make it feel impossible or like your goal is unattainable. Focus on what you can accomplish and embrace challenges. If it was easy everyone would do it. There are going to be more challenges than successes in the beginning, and challenges will continue to pop up. Take them head on with an active problem solving strategy. Avoiding challenges will more than likely amplify your imposter syndrome. Lastly, compare yourself to the person in the mirror. Comparing yourself to others, especially those that have been in your profession long than you, is going to put you in a negative head space. Everyday is an opportunity to learn and grow.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
My name is Beau Meadows. I own GRIT fitness and athletic development in Auburn, AL. We specialize in adult fitness and youth athletic development ages 3rd-12th. We offer personal training, small group training, and classes for adults and youth athletes. Our other services include nutrition coaching, and open gym memberships with programming included. I love to work with people of all ages and abilities to help them reach their health, fitness, and athletic goals. My favorite part is watching people realize that their true potential is unlocked with the appropriate intensity and consistency.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
I think earning my degrees was beneficial in my education process, but overall college taught me how to learn on my own. It also taught me that scientific foundation will only get you so far, but practical application is where true knowledge is gained. I was able to learn from a lot of knowledgable people along my journey to opening my doors. I believe finding comfort in failure is a huge factor that helped me get to the point I am at as well. Failure is inevitable. Attempting again as soon as you fail is what is important. Care about what you do and put others before yourself to a degree. It is easy to become selfish pursuing your goals. Try your best to put others before yourself and you will continue to succeed.
Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
I am always looks for people to partner or collaborate with. I love growing alongside others who are like minded and have the drive to achieve similar goals. I am always looking to partner with anyone in the health, fitness, nutrition, or overall well-being industry who is hard working and loves to see others succeed.
