We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Dian Mullis a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Dian, looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?
My grandparents were farmers that were alive during the Great Depression. They were the hardest workers I’ve ever seen. The older farmer generation seemed to know something about everything and they lived the work life. They saved money, didn’t waste anything and knew how to fix just about anything. We butchered our own cattle, grew our own hay, grew our own food and worked hard every day. They saved and never traveled, they lived their life for their family. They were selfless and always warm to be around. They were grateful people and I learned so much from them!
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I am the founder and owner of Pro Concrete Countertops. I fell in love with the versatility of concrete when I poured my own concrete countertops in my house in 2014. I took the Concrete Countertop Institute class in 2019 to learn glass fiber reinforced concrete. I went full time in my business in 2021. Concrete is liquid stone until it turns hard and it can be made into any shape and any color. It is an artist and engineer’s dream medium! I have my Mechanical Engineering Degree and I also have my Applied Mathematics Degree. I was a Director of Engineering for many years before working on my business full time. I’ve built three of my own houses and always loved the trades and working with my hands. My brand is a registered trademark and I hold 5 patents with one pending. I have a passion for making everything out of concrete!
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
God, hard work, and resilience. You can do ANYTHING with your life if you have these three things!
How can folks who want to work with you connect?
I would love to collaborate with interior designers or architects that have a large following and a passion for color and amazing design! I am working with an interior designer right now on a design collaboration and they will get a 20% commission for the products they design.
