Meet Cameron Williams

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Cameron Williams. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Cameron below.

Cameron, looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?
My work ethic has been something I have cultivated my entire life. From a young age, my parents taught me the importance of working efficiently and effectively, while also ensuring that my work is purposeful and to the best of my abilities. When I was in school the main advice I was given by my parents was to try my best. This advice kept me from placing extreme conditions on how I view success and how I view dedication. Ever since I was in kindergarten I prioritized getting my schoolwork done before being able to relax or do something else I enjoyed. My mother can attest to this, as we find ourselves reminiscing on this from time to time, laughing at how my need to finish my entire kindergarten homework packet on the Monday it was assigned developed into my same need to finish my university work before doing anything else. My work ethic is something that I take pride in, especially now in university. I am the type of individual who will stay up until 3 in the morning if it means that my work is done or I am prepared for a test. In my eyes, delivering my best is extremely important to me, as I want to ensure that anything I put my name to represents the dedicated and hard-working individual I am.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I am a rapper and producer, born and raised in Miami, Florida. I not only create my own beats and lyrics, but I am also responsible for my publishing, and branding. I began freestyle rapping when I was about 12-13 years old, something that I had only ever shown my younger brother and best friend at the time. As I got older, I began to develop my unique style, one that I am very proud of today. J. Cole, Kendrick Lamar, Logic, JID, and many other artists have inspired me greatly, influencing my music in numerous ways. My style specifically focuses on delivering conscious lyrics with a mixture of clever punchlines, faith, and emotion. In addition to this, I like to make songs where I experiment with different sounds and just have fun, because that’s what life as an artist is all about. My beats are typically driven by bass, kicks, snares, and some kind of sample (usually horns). I recognize that being a musician is not just fun, but a powerful way of expressing oneself intellectually and creatively. As a musician, my goal is to make my audience feel differently after listening to my songs. I want to be able to use my music to not only entertain people but to inspire them in countless ways, whether that be to go on a healing journey or finally beat their high score on a video game. While my journey is still very young, I know that in the end, I will be able to look back with joy and a sense of fulfillment, knowing that I was able to reach countless others.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
I believe that the three qualities that have been most impactful to me on my journey so far have been dedication, resilience, and humility. If there is something that you want on this Earth, then being dedicated and working toward that goal to the best of your abilities is necessary. To achieve what you want, you have to be willing to do what other people are not willing to do. It is important to remember though that we are all human, and we all have our ups and downs. While being resilient is extremely important, part of being resilient on your own is having a reliable and supportive team around you and knowing when to ask for their help. This is where humility is key. Many of us, myself included, find it difficult to rely on others, or find that we are being a burden to them by asking for their help. THAT IS NOT THE CASE. When you have a supportive and loving team around you, there is never a reason to feel like those people are going to judge you or be burdened by your wants and needs. In my life, I have practiced cultivating these three qualities every chance I get by setting attainable goals for myself, constantly working to better my relationships with my loved ones around me, and most importantly, practicing mindfulness. We all have great days, and we all have bad days, but being aware of what causes those feelings is key to finding peace and success. Without constantly cultivating these three qualities, I doubt I would be the person I am today.

What was the most impactful thing your parents did for you?
The most impactful thing my parents did for me was believe in me and reassure me of what I am capable of accomplishing. When I first started making music, I was afraid that it was not good, and that my parents would not like my songs. After revealing my music to them and expressing how important it was to me, my parents completely bought into my dreams. Growing up, my parents were always there for me, something I am very grateful for. If one day I decided I wanted to play football, there they were buying me all of the accessories needed and filming my games. If the next day I decided I wanted to become a photographer, there they were buying me the equipment and classes needed to make this dream a reality. With music, my parents have been very supportive from the beginning. My favorite accomplishment that I achieved over the past couple of months was releasing one of their favorite songs of all time. My parents are not the kind of people to lie to you just to make you happy, trust me I know. So to hear that my latest release “Shohei.” is their favorite song that they play every day on their way to work, is truly an amazing accomplishment. If my parents did not support me at the level that they do, I do not believe that I would be the man I am today both as a musician and as an individual. Their undying love and admiration for me is something that I will always cherish, and something I hope I can provide my future children with one day.
