Meet Alyssa Banks

We were lucky to catch up with Alyssa Banks recently and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Alyssa, thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?
When I was 3 years old, my father became a Pastor. That didn’t become his main vocation though. Until about 3 years ago, my father also working in management in the compressed gas industry. Essentially, for my entire life, I watched my father walk in integrity in both the sanctuary and the secular world.

I believe that has everything to do with where my work ethic comes from: have integrity, do your job, and do it well.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
My name is Alyssa Banks and I’m the CEO of The SanctiFly Brand—a multi-faceted creativity firm specializing in graphic design, branding, marketing, and creative content—alongside the flourishing apparel line. I started with a simple shirt design that grew into a movement that reminds Christians that although we are not OF this world, we are IN it—and we have a duty to represent Jesus well in our every day life. I stand firm on the concept that if I can’t bring Jesus to the table, then, I’m not coming.

I’m on a mission to shatter the glass ceiling of what it means to be a creative Christian woman. You can have it all–just maybe not all at the same time. My goal is to create a safe space for “church girls” like me so I’m hosting my first brunch on April 13th in Elizabeth City, NC called Church Girls Everywhere: The Meet Up! I can’t wait to see it all come together!

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Three skills/areas of knowledge that I believe have been most impactful in my journey are: grit, grace, and flexibility. Grit is something that requires attentiveness to a goal, and a plan to get to a desired result. With that, comes a level of grace, or a learning curve, that you have to give yourself. Nobody gets it right the first time, so you have to have grace for that. And then the flexibility to move with the pivots. Pivots are necessary and they won’t ever go away, so you HAVE to be flexible in this entrepreneurial journey.

Awesome, really appreciate you opening up with us today and before we close maybe you can share a book recommendation with us. Has there been a book that’s been impactful in your growth and development?
The 25 Biblical Laws of Success would have to be the most influential book in my development. The book breaks down biblical characteristics into real-world scenarios. The saying goes, “You don’t want to be so heavenly bound, that you are of no earthly good,” and I believe that. As a christian, it’s not my job to not operate in excellence. That’s my duty. This book brought all that to light.
