Meet Robert Rivers III

We recently connected with Robert Rivers III and have shared our conversation below.

Robert, so good to have you with us today. We’ve got so much planned, so let’s jump right into it. We live in such a diverse world, and in many ways the world is getting better and more understanding but it’s far from perfect. There are so many times where folks find themselves in rooms or situations where they are the only ones that look like them – that might mean being the only woman of color in the room or the only person who grew up in a certain environment etc. Can you talk to us about how you’ve managed to thrive even in situations where you were the only one in the room?
When I was young I never noticed much when there were times I was the only person of color in a classroom or on the soccer field but as I grew up I started to notice my differences compared to others. Other than being the only one that looks like me. I also came from a single parent household which molded me to who I am today. Having a strong educated hardworking mom that always supports, helped me adjust to certain circumstances I would see later in life. Being the only one that looks like me has never been an issue mentally to me because I have Godgiven ability and have a purpose. Though I have had negative affects due to my skin color, which has had me make sure that I am significantly better at certain aspects knowing i would be judged on a different scale. As I continue in my career I understand that representation is huge so that others have the motivation to do the same thing or create their own avenue.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
Dynamic Futbol Academy is an ever evolving program that focuses on giving players opportunities to play the game of soccer. We have camps, clinics, and a Mens professional development team. We provide those that may not have the opportunity to experience professional coaching and mentorship. For us the game is for everyone and is used to develop and learn life lessons.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Qualities i feel have been impactful to those we deal with is empathy, professionalism, and consistency. My advice for those to develop is to be understanding of people’s backgrounds, continuing education, and observation. My life’s experience has taught me and given me so much perspective and continues to grow as I get older an interest with different people. Relationship with people is everything.

Okay, so before we go, is there anyone you’d like to shoutout for the role they’ve played in helping you develop the essential skills or overcome challenges along the way?
There have been several impactful people involved with my development. From these people I can list what I have learned… Mom- Empathy and resilience with no excuses

Wife- Love, Support, Organization
Colleagues- Family First, Support
Past Coaches and Mentors- Structure, professionalism, consistency

Through the years there have been several challenges but with prayer and my consistent faith in Jesus I have been able to continue. There have been several people that played vital roles to help me continue to develop and provide opportunities for others.
