We were lucky to catch up with Pauline M. Dillon recently and have shared our conversation below.
Pauline M., so great to have you sharing your thoughts and wisdom with our readers and so let’s jump right into one of our favorite topics – empathy. We think a lack of empathy is at the heart of so many issues the world is struggling with and so our hope is to contribute to an environment that fosters the development of empathy. Along those lines, we’d love to hear your thoughts around where your empathy comes from?
The conditions such as child abuse, at the hand of my mother, not growing with either parents or with my sisters and brothers, and still not knowing my father, growing in a government institution called the state home, these happenings has allowed me to develop my empathy for others.
All of this is leading back to my childhood days and all those traumatic experiences that took place during that time. I feel If God helped me through those experiences, that He somehow has empowered me, and would want me to share my story with others of how I survived.
Even though it has not been easy God has been very faithful. I really believe I can encourage others to overcome in their situation.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I currently working at a law firm, on a part time basis as an Executive Assistant.
I am the author of two great books, both books are on Amazon.
(Book one) ‘From Rejected To Restored How God Turns Pain Into Purpose And Gives Hope To The Broken’ (Book two) A forty day devotional ‘Deeper Moments To Exude God’s Fragrance’ and I am currently working on a third. book, hoping to publish it this year.
Whenever, I get booked, from time to time I go on speaking engagements also do radio interviews, and to schools to share my story. I coach and mentor children and adults. I also plan to go into the government homes to share with the children my story of growing up in a government home and what that was like.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Looking back the three qualities, skills , I would say that have been very impactful are;
1. Listening, I truly enjoy being able to listen to persons as they share with me whatever they are going through. 2. It is also great to able to identify with persons situation in practical ways. 3. And give encouragement to persons reminding them, they are loved by the Lord God and that they always have the opportunity to try and keep trying again as God is the God of many chances.
My advice to someone who is new on the journey is to be yourself, listen, and pray about stuff before you make your decisions..
Also, if you can get a mentor or coach this will help greatly.
Awesome, really appreciate you opening up with us today and before we close maybe you can share a book recommendation with us. Has there been a book that’s been impactful in your growth and development?
I would say many books have played very important role in my development so far, and to pick one is not very easy, however I could maybe go with ‘The Purpose Driven Life’ by Rick Warren.
I have read this book many times cover to cover and the information shared by Rick Warren is very impactful.
Some of the nuggets learned, and which I try to practise often in my daily living, which I can leave with your readers are; 1. God made us all for a purpose, each of us have purpose for living and knowing that purpose makes life even more simpler because then you can live a fulfilled life 2. What matters most in life is love, which is the love of God, and love of one’s self, this will, then help you to love others. 3.. The heart of worship begins when I surrender to God totally in my heart and soul. 4. Live on Purpose, and with focus intentions, remembering life is short. 5.. God made us all for (not just purpose), but for a mission, His mission.
