Meet Chi Fan Wang

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Chi Fan Wang. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Chi Fan below.

Chi Fan, we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?
My resilience stems from producing a variety of animations, including both 2D and 3D, for audiences to enjoy. Seeing people delight in my work fills me with immense happiness and energizes me further.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
My name is Van, and I am a full-time designer/animator based in New York, currently working at Coed Studio. My job involves creating motion designs for commercial advertisements, handling everything from graphic design to animation production. My strength lies in 2D motion production. I am continually learning 3D animation, aiming to become a versatile animator proficient in both 2D and 3D. One of my proudest achievements is designing the E-Gate animation for my home country, Taiwan, to promote essential information that brings convenience to its citizens. I also had the opportunity to intern at the world-renowned studio, Buck. My graduation project, The Life, has won awards at several IMDb qualified film festivals. Despite these achievements, I am not satisfied with the status quo. I aim to continuously update my animation skill set, exploring new technologies in animation and AI. One day, I hope to create diverse animations that have a positive impact on the world.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
I believe the first and most important trait in my journey is maintaining an open attitude towards the world. It is only by staying open that we can embrace things beyond our current understanding and expand the boundaries of our knowledge. Expanding these boundaries allows us to better appreciate the world and know where we should be heading.

The second trait I consider important is rest. Knowing how to rest properly is a significant skill. I believe that only by resting well can we complete the tasks and learning that lie ahead with the best quality.

The third trait is not to struggle alone. Life is full of ups and downs, and it’s impossible to accomplish many complex and significant tasks on your own. Try to share responsibilities with those you trust to keep yourself in the best condition. As the saying goes, a person can go fast alone, but a group can go much further together.

What is the number one obstacle or challenge you are currently facing and what are you doing to try to resolve or overcome this challenge?
Navigating life in the United States necessitates accepting that the people around you are all highly capable, and overcoming the mentality of constant comparison is a crucial challenge. We all wish to be the best among the rest, but this thought often prevents us from fully enjoying the joy of creating animations with an open heart. I’ve been trapped in the stress of comparison, struggling to catch my breath in life. However, I met a fantastic roommate who helped me understand that everyone is diverse and unique. Ultimately, I realized that focusing on becoming the best version of myself is sufficient.
