Hi Alisa, appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?
My resilience stems from navigating the intricate worlds of both music and boxing, where I’ve learned to harness the force of my convictions to break and reshape the mold. Known in the circles of music and boxing as The Queenpin, I embody resilience through my battles with record labels and artists, and through my lyrics like, “When the world’s tumbling down, be the toughest one around.” My journey is a testament to standing tall against the odds, bulldozing a new path where others see barriers.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
Certainly. My unique blend of music and boxing emerged from my struggles within the music industry. Facing appropriation of my work without credit, I decided to fight back—literally and figuratively. My mission was to demand respect and recognition in an industry notorious for its neglect of independent artists. This has fueled my critique that the music industry needs to be fundamentally restructured, advocating for a space where creativity and originality thrive over profit.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
In a world brimming with advice on success, I’d emphasize the importance of uniqueness, the courage to defy conventions, and the recognition of the power of support. Contrary to the lone wolf image some may perceive, I value solidarity and see it as crucial to overcoming challenges. Through my music and my persona, I advocate for empowerment and authenticity, inviting others to join me in making a mark that’s genuinely transformative.
Okay, so before we go, is there anyone you’d like to shout out for the role they’ve played in helping you develop the essential skills or overcome challenges along the way?
My journey’s uniqueness doesn’t solely reside in my voice or lyrics, but also in my indomitable spirit, which blends musical artistry with the discipline of boxing.
Challenging industry icons wasn’t about seeking publicity but about making a statement of strength and independence. This path has been illuminated by the support of many who’ve believed in the fusion of my passions, helping me to stand tall and proud against the industry’s giants.
