We were lucky to catch up with STEVIE KLICK recently and have shared our conversation below.
STEVIE, appreciate you making time for us and sharing your wisdom with the community. So many of us go through similar pain points throughout our journeys and so hearing about how others overcame obstacles can be helpful. One of those struggles is keeping creativity alive despite all the stresses, challenges and problems we might be dealing with. How do you keep your creativity alive?
I like bathing myself in nature when I feel flat, or uninspired. Whatever the season may be, I always find inspiration in nature. Even in winter, there’s a wealth of inspiration in the natural world. There is so much beauty to be seen and experienced from the intricate patterns of a leaf to the majestic calm of winter forests. When you take the time to witness it, you too will find creative inspiration within the most beautiful natural canvas. Pay attention to shapes, curves, colours, and patterns within the natural environment, these experiences are a testament to the endless muse that nature provides for those willing to explore.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
The Indoor Forest is a biophilic design company specializing in creative interior plantscapes. My favourite part about my job is bringing imaginative pieces to life and watching how the room transforms. The concept of biophilic design focuses on the feeling the occupant gets when using the space, rather than a single element itself. There is an art to creating spaces that merge the beauty of the outdoors with the indoors. It’s about crafting an experience through subtlety, much like nature itself – unnoticed but profoundly impactful.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
In a world teeming with advice on success, three areas helped me most in my entrepreneurial journey. It all boils down to an in-depth understanding of business operations, practical skills in using tools and building, and a balanced approach that combines creativity with logical organization. I grew up with entrepreneurial parents, so I had more knowledge and understanding stored away than I realized. I also have a wealth of knowledge at hand to ask questions and learn.
Advice: There will be things that you are terrible at and are challenging to learn, evaluate what you can and cannot do. Embrace your strengths, recognize your limitations, and seek help where needed. Passion and perseverance are key, but remember, even your dream job requires hard work.
Before we go, any advice you can share with people who are feeling overwhelmed?
As a business owner, wearing multiple hats is part of the entrepreneurial journey. Recognizing when to pause and strategize is crucial for clarity and tackling challenges head-on. At some point in time, you will encounter a day when you cannot possibly put all the hats on at once, when this happens sometimes take a break to practice self-care. Taking time for yourself may seem counter-intuitive, but I generally find it brings clarity and reignites my ability to conquer challenges.
