We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Abshiro Tobe, Dahabe Yusuf, Bonni Abdurahman a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Abshiro Tobe, Dahabe Yusuf, Bonni Abdurahman, we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.
Thank you for having us on the Bold Journey interview, it’s a pleasure to be here. When it comes to finding our purpose, it’s been a journey deeply rooted in understanding the needs and woes of our community. Through engaging with individuals and really listening to their stories, we began to recognize the pressing issues surrounding mental health, social justice, parent/child gap, and the unique challenges faced by east African Muslim communities. This awareness ignited a passion within us to address these issues head-on, leading us to embark on this podcasting venture and establishing Difficult Conversations Podcast.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
In terms of our professional focus, our podcast is a vehicle for tackling mental health issues within our community, fostering discussions around social justice, and amplifying voices on taboo topics and Muslim-focused issues. It’s about creating a platform where these conversations can happen openly and authentically, paving the way for greater understanding and progress towards real solutions.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Reflecting on our journey, three qualities that have been instrumental are our deep connection to the community, drawing from three professional expertise and lived experiences, and fostering diverse thinking and problem solving. These qualities have allowed us to authentically communicate our thoughts, identify the lack of resources available to our community, and approach each episode with authenticity and vulnerability.
For those early in their journey, our advice would be to prioritize patience and trust in the process. Every small step forward is a significant accomplishment worth celebrating. It’s crucial to identify your purpose and continually reassess your intentions to stay aligned with your goals. And remember, it’s essential to keep the journey enjoyable and fulfilling.
One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
As for collaborations, we’re always open to partnering with like-minded individuals and organizations. We’re particularly interested in collaborating with professionals in mental health, financial growth, self-help, and self-improvement, especially those who advocate for communities of color. If anyone reading this is interested in collaborating, please reach out to us. We’re excited to explore potential partnerships and amplify our collective impact.
