Meet Emanuel Brown

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Emanuel Brown. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Emanuel, so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?
So I never knew that music was my calling in the beginning. I had a creative bug before I even knew it. I used to draw growing up and could do really good photorealistic photos at the age of ten. I was fascinated by starting with a blank canvas and turning it into something. With that said I remember the first time I heard a Hip-Hop song which was a Dr. Dre song, I can’t remember the name of the song right now, but that made me start my transition into wanting to do music. Then at twelve I seen kids in my school rapping and they asked me “can you Rap”? I said I don’t know and then I tried and never turned back. I put my pencil down from sketching and starting writing words. I was enamored by how someones words could change your whole perspective on life and mood and realized I had something to say and that when I knew this was my purpose.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I’m a music artist from Newport News, VA who now currently resides in the greater Seattle area. I focus on making R&B, Hip Hop and Neo-soul music with a focus on raw unfiltered messages and stories about things I have been through or have seen happen to people in my life. I really want people to know anything is possible and obtainable no matter what walk of life you come from if you work hard and don’t give up on yourself.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
I think three of the most important things I’ve learned through life is; don’t let anyone who hasn’t done it or tried to do it tell you its not possible, don’t take shortcuts because it will rob you of the true reward of appreciation when you final achieve it, and always be willing to learn because you truly can’t grow if you think you know everything.

To close, maybe we can chat about your parents and what they did that was particularly impactful for you?
Not do it for me. If I had a question even if they knew the answer they would make me look it up, they challenged me to be better, think bigger and know that nothing is given in this world and that its earned.
