Meet Shiny Abbott

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Shiny Abbott a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Shiny, appreciate you making time for us and sharing your wisdom with the community. So many of us go through similar pain points throughout our journeys and so hearing about how others overcame obstacles can be helpful. One of those struggles is keeping creativity alive despite all the stresses, challenges and problems we might be dealing with. How do you keep your creativity alive?
Maintaining the vitality of my creativity is fundamental to both my personal fulfillment and the quality of my work. I approach this with a strategy that reflects my personality and values. Firstly, I look for inspiration from various sources—whether it’s exploring different cultures through travel or immersing myself in art and music. This diverse areas enriches my creative process and keeps my ideas fresh and dynamic.

Secondly, I create an environment that keeps me creative, It helps a lot for work flow and inspiration. Additionally, I’m a firm believer in the power of self-expression and authenticity. Embracing my unique voice and allowing myself to be unapologetically ‘me’ fuels my creative fire. Lastly, I continually challenge myself to step out of my comfort zone and explore territories that are not within my field. Whether it’s experimenting with new techniques, pushing the boundaries of design rules, or daring to dream bigger… I love the excitement of growth and evolution.

In essence, my creativity thrives on a balance of curiosity, collaboration, authenticity, and passion, all fueled by an unwavering commitment to spreading joy through design and art.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
My name is Shiny Abbott and I am a Visual Designer and artist with a background in Industrial Design bachelor’s degree, a Masters in Visual Communication Design, and a whole heart and mind dedicated to creating and designing beautiful things for this world.

I perceive my project, Shiny Abbott, as a dazzling creative realm where imagination, design, and my essence converge.

It’s divided into 2 parts: First, I specialize in creating tangible art products. On this side, my creative scope is quite wide, spanning from pop sockets and bandanas to phone cases, paper goods, and artwork with the aim to spread positivity, celebrate life’s small joys, and embrace the magical moments of love and fun that surround us.
Then, there’s the second part – working with brands and clients to help them define their visual identities, branding, and similar needs. I enjoy getting to know brands and clients, understanding their ideas, and translating them into something that stands out. Exploring their unique perspectives is like solving a puzzle to create a cohesive visual identity.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Looking back, the qualities that has been the most impactful in my journey are being myself, practicing patience, developing my ability to adapt quickly, and encouraging an open-minded approach always. Being true to myself it’s more than just staying authentic to my vision; it’s also about knowing when to trust my instincts, when to push boundaries, and when to stay true to my core values. This skill has allowed me to create work that is not only visually appealing but also deeply meaningful and impactful. This has allowed me to stay authentic and maintain a unique perspective in my work. Patience has been crucial in navigating the challenges and successes, reminding me to trust the process and stay committed to my goals. Additionally, the ability to adapt quickly has been essential in a rapidly evolving industry, Also an “open-mindedness” skill has helped me adapt to new trends and stay informed about the latest developments in my field, allowing me to continuously grow and evolve as a designer.

In a resume, my advice for those early in their journey is to embrace their uniqueness, practice patience, stay adaptable, and remain open-minded in the creative world.

To close, maybe we can chat about your parents and what they did that was particularly impactful for you?
The most impactful thing my parents did for me was to believe in me with closed eyes. Their constant faith in my abilities gave me the confidence to pursue my dreams. Their belief in me is still a constant source of strength and motivation, pushing me to go for excellence in everything I do. It taught me the importance of self-belief and resilience, values that continue to guide me in my journey. I am forever grateful for their unconditional support, as they have been a great part of the process that made me into the person I am today.
