Meet Indiah Jackson

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Indiah Jackson a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Indiah, so glad you were able to set aside some time for us today. We’ve always admired not just your journey and success, but also the seemingly high levels of self-discipline that you seem to have mastered and so maybe we can start by chatting about how you developed it or where it comes from?
My self-discipline comes from wanting more for myself and my business. I’m all about pushing forward with consistent habits because I’m eager to see myself and my business in a better spot. It’s that hunger for improvement that keeps me disciplined and working towards success.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
As the founder of a thriving catering business, I’ve been on a flavorful journey since launching five years ago, starting with serving plates from my apartment to the local community. What excites me most is the upcoming launch of our food truck this spring, bringing a unique twist to soul food. Collaborating with various companies and brands has been a rewarding experience, and the journey extends beyond cooking to include my own wine company, Endigo, and a line of signature seasonings. Stay tuned for the exciting flavors and experiences we’re bringing to your plates and glasses!

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Reflecting on my journey, three pivotal elements that contributed to my success were resilience, customer understanding, and adaptability.

1.Resilience: The ability to bounce back from challenges is crucial. Embrace setbacks as opportunities to learn and grow.

2.Customer Understanding: Knowing your audience is key. Listen to feedback, understand preferences, and tailor your offerings to meet their needs.

3.Adaptability: In the dynamic business world, adaptability is a superpower. Stay open to change, be flexible in your approach, and evolve with the industry.

For those starting their journey, my advice is to stay resilient in the face of challenges, prioritize understanding your customers, and be adaptable to changes in the market. Continuous learning is essential – seek feedback, stay curious, and don’t be afraid to pivot when necessary.

Before we go, maybe you can tell us a bit about your parents and what you feel was the most impactful thing they did for you?
The most impactful thing my parents did for me was instilling a strong work ethic and a belief in the value of continuous learning. They emphasized the importance of hard work, perseverance, and a commitment to personal and professional growth. This foundation has been instrumental in shaping my approach to life and my journey towards success. In addition to instilling a strong work ethic and a passion for learning, my parents have been unwavering supporters of my mental well-being. Their investment in my mental health, coupled with their encouragement to embrace my uniqueness, has been profoundly impactful. They consistently foster an environment that allows me to be authentically myself, never confining me to any societal or conventional expectations. This has played a pivotal role in shaping my confidence and individuality.
