We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Sabrina Allen a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Sabrina , thank you so much for opening up with us about some important, but sometimes personal topics. One that really matters to us is overcoming Imposter Syndrome because we’ve seen how so many people are held back in life because of this and so we’d really appreciate hearing about how you overcame Imposter Syndrome.
As much as I want give an answer to this question I fell that imposter syndrome is truly something you never fully overcome. I believe in each level you promote your way through, there is a new set of challenges that await you. It’s up to you to decide whether you are going to go after it or go back to what you just came out of. With God by my side, I know that anything that looks like a challenge is just an opportunity for God to show up mightily for me. As a result, I get to bring him glory.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
The Journey Journals,LLC was created for women like myself, who are multi talented and don’t subscribe to labels. For so long as women we have been charged with taking a back seat and covering our traumas. My goal is to put my journey on display, but also help other women build their faith as well as conquering transparency.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
I would say that no matter what set of skills I acquired, I can’t do any of this without God. I want to be able to give a tangible answer to someone out there struggling but the truth is, it’s God who gives me strength. My insecurities become irrelevant when I see myself through Gods eyes. No amount of time management, discipline or connections can propel me to where God has.
Before we go, maybe you can tell us a bit about your parents and what you feel was the most impactful thing they did for you?
The most impactful thing my parents did for me outside of my faith was allowing me to travel at an early age. Traveling opened my eyes in a way that no amount of schooling could. It let me see how fortunate I was to live in America even with all it’s challenges. How even being able to travel often was a blessing.
