We recently connected with Kaitlyn Whitaker and have shared our conversation below.
Kaitlyn, we are so happy that our community is going to have a chance to learn more about you, your story and hopefully even take in some of the lessons you’ve learned along the way. Let’s start with self-care – what do you do for self-care and has it had any impact on your effectiveness?
Self care is so much more than just bubble baths, skin care, and shopping sprees. Self care is talking positive affirmations to yourself in the mirror, hugging yourself when you cry, allowing yourself to feel your emotions with compassion and patience, writing self compassion letters, asking for help when you need it, working through your own trauma and triggers to be the best you that you can be, being comfortable alone or learning to be comfortable alone. Self care is a lot of things. I believe that self discipline is the highest form of self care. It can be really hard but it’s so worth it. Anytime I’m going through something, I always try to remind myself of how I treat others when they are going through something so that I can give myself that same compassion. It definitely helps because I can be really hard on myself! Learning what true forms of self care is, I have been able to calm my nervous system in stressful situations, turn my negative thoughts into positive ones and just overall stay in higher vibrations. It isn’t always easy but learning ways to take care of yourself in the most effective ways really adds the best tools to your tool belt while navigating through life’s ups and downs. Self love is the best love and certainly the best tool to have on your tool belt for life. No one can truly love you more than you love yourself. Only you know how you really feel and what you really want out of life and if you don’t, true self care will surely help you figure it out.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I am an entrepreneur of a small business called Kreative K nails llc. I am a certified nail technician who specializes in Kreative acrylic nails. I have been doing nails since 2020. What’s most exciting about my business for me is that I can be as unique and flexible as I want. I create my own schedule, I set up my space how I like it, I get to do my own nails however I like, I can even choose to not accept certain clients if need be, and I offer private, luxury appointments in the comfort of my own home. Each of my clients walk into a clean space every appointment, clean implements are used and their nails are taken care of with love every time. They even receive little gift bags for just about every holiday. I ensure high quality nail products, as well as high quality nail care. My clients always mention how cozy it is in my space and how they could just fall asleep. They always leave happy and pampered. In the near future, I plan to have a small space outside of my home to continue my nail career, accept more clients, and possibly become a nail educator.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Spirituality, patience, and dreaming big have been the most impactful on my journey. Getting closer to God has brought me so much peace of mind and guidance that I need to take on the life that is meant for me. I have always been a very patient person which allows me to trust my path, stay on it and not compare my story to others. It has also allowed me to teach myself how to do nails. So many nail techs hear, “how do you have the patience to do your own nails!?” I feel it’s a very important quality to have in the nail industry. Dreaming big has got me where I am today and will continue to keep me going. As a child, all I had were dreams. I was too busy living in survival mode and being a mother figure for my younger siblings so dreaming is all I could do. At some point in my early adult life, I realized I was my own person who was finally free to make any dream of mine come true. My advice to anyone in their early adult life or career, stay true to yourself and your path. Everything meant for you will be yours as long as you work for it and stay true to yourself.
Tell us what your ideal client would be like?
Ideal clients for me are the ones who make my job easier. Ones who are always right on time and know exactly how they want their nails. Ones who are not super picky and give great vibes. Clients who trust me with their nails and let me work in my creative zone. As a creative, you really have to have those good vibes or be in a good head space to really perform at your best.
