Meet Nicole Powell

We recently connected with Nicole Powell and have shared our conversation below.

Nicole, thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?

The essence of my resilience is deeply intertwined with my immigrant journey, which began in the Philippines. Along this path, I’ve encountered an array of challenges, navigating assimilating into a new country and culture. In spaces where my appearance set me apart, I was compelled to draw upon my inner strength and conviction to embrace my uniqueness proudly.

As I matured and entered the workforce, I faced a world where connections and networking were of the utmost importance. Yet, lacking in established connections, I was driven to forge my own path, refusing to accept defeat, seizing every opportunity, and working extremely hard to make a name for myself. With resilience as my compass, I tirelessly worked to expand my network, refusing to accept rejection.

Additionally, my career journey led me to move to various locations across the country, where I repeatedly reconstructed both my professional and personal life from scratch. Each instance of starting anew served to fortify my resilience as I learned to navigate unfamiliar territories with unwavering determination.

Moreover, running emerged as a cornerstone in my resilience-building journey. With each run, I discovered solace and clarity, empowering me to confront obstacles with renewed vigor. The endurance demanded by long distances and challenging terrains mirrored the resilience required to confront life’s trials head-on.

My immigrant background and love for running converge to shape the bedrock of my resilience. They constantly remind me of my capacity to overcome adversity, adapt to change, and emerge stronger, embodying the unwavering spirit of resilience.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
As the Fractional CMO at Nicole Powell Brand and the proud owner and founder of HALCON Marketing Solutions, a dynamic brand strategy and marketing agency headquartered in St. Louis, Missouri, I bring forth over 16 years of invaluable expertise garnered from my tenure at esteemed national media conglomerates such as Viacom, Disney, ESPN, Fox Networks, and more. Throughout my career, I have meticulously honed my skills in crafting compelling brands and pioneering marketing strategies for renowned companies across diverse industries.

At HALCON, we have embraced an innovative approach that marries instinct, innate creative flair, and an adventurous spirit with cutting-edge neuromarketing techniques, insights from psychology, and meticulous market research. This unique blend of methodologies has empowered us to revolutionize businesses, propelling them into formidable brands poised for growth and success.

We recognize the inherent limitations in an industry fixated on metrics like impressions, clicks, and digital reach. While these metrics may offer numerical insights, they often fall short of driving real business growth.

Our approach is anchored in the essence of brand DNA. We understand that paid ads and social media are merely tools, not the heart of a campaign. Therefore, we prioritize the creation of a robust brand identity before delving into tactical executions. The brand-building process is fascinating, and I am deeply passionate about bringing big brand methodologies to business owners.

Certified in neuromarketing, I understand the power of tapping into the subconscious. At HALCON, we do not solely focus on optimizing digital advertising; we optimize brand perception. We aim to forge lasting connections with your audience, fostering trust and loyalty that transcends mere transactions.

We build brands with values that stand for something more than the products or services they sell. We build brands that make an impact.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Reflecting on my journey, I firmly believe empathy, resilience, and patience have emerged as the most crucial values.

Empathy has allowed me to understand and connect with others on a deeper level, fostering meaningful relationships and collaborations along the way, understanding that we are all in it together and doing our best. This has allowed me to give myself and others grace during times of stress.

Resilience has been my constant companion, enabling me to weather storms, bounce back from setbacks, and continue moving forward despite obstacles. It has instilled in me the dedication and focus needed to pursue my goals relentlessly. At the same time, patience has taught me the virtue of waiting for the right opportunities and allowing things to unfold organically. Patience has enabled me to change my perspective on setbacks and reframe it as learnings. Rather than solving something right NOW, I wait to see what lesson I will learn from the experience.

I’ve realized that a significant part of personal and professional growth stems from reading and self-learning. For anyone looking to develop these skills best, I recommend immersing yourself in books, articles, and resources that delve into various subjects or talking to individuals you emulate to gain invaluable insights and knowledge. This continuous process of learning not only expands your understanding of the world but fosters self-awareness and introspection to see situations as they are.

Understanding yourself is key to unlocking your true potential and achieving success. Recognizing your strengths and weaknesses but also accepting them as part of you is key. Armed with this self-awareness, we can make informed decisions, set meaningful goals, and chart a path that aligns with our values and aspirations.

Awesome, really appreciate you opening up with us today and before we close maybe you can share a book recommendation with us. Has there been a book that’s been impactful in your growth and development?
The book “The Courage to Be Disliked” has impacted my personal and professional development journey. Its powerful insights and teachings have profoundly challenged and reshaped my perspectives on life, relationships, and self-acceptance.

One of the most significant lessons I gleaned from the book is embracing authenticity and living true to oneself, even if it means facing criticism or disapproval from others. The notion that it is okay to be disliked by some people resonated deeply with me, as it liberated me from seeking constant approval and validation from others. Instead, it empowered me to prioritize my values, beliefs, and goals, regardless of external opinions.

Moreover, the book’s exploration of Adlerian psychology and the concept of self-acceptance has been transformative. By understanding the dynamics of interpersonal relationships and the role of individual perception, I’ve learned to cultivate a deeper sense of empathy and compassion toward myself and others. This newfound perspective has enriched my interactions with colleagues, friends, and loved ones, fostering deeper connections and mutual understanding.

“The Courage to Be Disliked” has equipped me with valuable tools and strategies for overcoming obstacles and pursuing personal growth. Its teachings on reframing negative experiences, taking ownership of one’s choices, and embracing change have enabled me to navigate life’s challenges with resilience and grace. I’ve learned to approach setbacks as opportunities for learning and growth rather than immovable barriers.

Overall, the wisdom imparted by “The Courage to Be Disliked” has been instrumental in shaping my mindset, values, and approach to life. It has empowered me to cultivate authenticity, resilience, and self-compassion, guiding me towards a path of greater fulfillment, purpose, and inner peace.
