We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Tiana Moneyy a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Tiana, first a big thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts and insights with us today. I’m sure many of our readers will benefit from your wisdom, and one of the areas where we think your insight might be most helpful is related to imposter syndrome. Imposter syndrome is holding so many people back from reaching their true and highest potential and so we’d love to hear about your journey and how you overcame imposter syndrome.
Imposter syndrome fled when I realized no one in proximity to me had the mindset and/or courage to execute outside of jobs, titles, and societal trends/philosophies/ideologies. Continuing to work within social media algorithms, culture, and unrealistic aesthetic keeps you in the rat race. I’d much rather ride my own wave and watch God work on my behalf. The people around you/on your social media friends list may not be checking for you but someone will!
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
The art of consultancy requires you to be your own critic merged with a strong drive to stand out, imagination, and charisma. Doing what everyone else is doing contradicts real innovation!
What excites most me about the profession is seeing creative thoughts come to life. The gift of understanding a variety of people helps to think outside of the box. It allows me to work with others and express a natural talent for mental and emotional constitution. The Tiana Moneyy brand (that’s what I’m calling it for now until the rebrand happens) finds solutions by empathizing the concerns of clients, seeing the bigger picture, and knowing that each client has their own unique need/vision.
Professionally I am definitely still in the beginning stages. Continuing to keep the business in house and intimate in order to improve and evolve in the name of legacy. There’s no hurry to sign a deal or attain a sponsorship agreement with principalities. Is it risky? Yes, however, there’s empowerment in cultivation/advocacy.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
1. Don’t hold on to superficial and/or dated affiliations/friendships
2. Be confident to say how you truly feel in conversation no matter how harsh/unpopular/intrusive it may come off. Honesty saves energy.
3. Develop and hone your unique talents no matter what moves people closest to you are making
4. People will claim to want to work with you and collab. Don’t wait around for it to happen. Take it as confirmation and grow to create your own opportunities/art/moment.
5. Superficial knowledge won’t cut it. Deep dive into your discipline/specialty
6. You grow when you’re grounded. S/O to Ari Lennox. Overnight success does not exist and patience is a virtue. You only want what’s for you. Nothing less, nothing more.
7. Let the promise over your life be your security
The list is a 2-in-1 so there’s more than 3 lol
What has been your biggest area of growth or improvement in the past 12 months?
My patience!
There was a sense of entitlement when it came to my ability, but I managed to turn entitlement into responsibility. Qualities unique to the individual gives a sense of purpose and purpose can turn into obsession. There’s so much more to life than achievement. I get it, it’s great to be recognized for our contribution(s) to the world but there’s so much more to work on before you can be all that you can be . A quote from Pastor Toure Roberts comes to mind, “We don’t need another mess in influence.”
