Hi Shyia , appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?
When I think of where I get my resilience from, one thing comes to mind. My ancestors. I think about the lives of my ancestors & all they had to go through just to get me to the level I am today. The moment I think I want to complain, I think of the slaves who didn’t have a voice. The moment I want to say life isn’t fair, I think of my ancestors that had to deal with Jim Crow era. I am living in my ancestors wildest dreams, therefore I keep striving.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I’ve been doing makeup now for 13 years. I teach people how to do their own makeup as well. My passion for makeup started when I was in college studying theatre. I figured if I can’t get on the stage, I will make sure I’ll be behind the stage. I have been into the arts since I was a little girl. Today, we call it being a content creator, but in actuality I feel like I’m living out my dreams of being the actress I always desired to be. I produce, direct & act out all of my content for myself & brands I collaborate with. I create content for just about everything. I’m the girl you come to if you would like to know where to take your significant other for a romantic date, vacation, somewhere fun, somewhere relaxing & somewhere to get all their beauty needs done. I also create content to teach people how to love themselves better, their spouse & family and friends. I showcase my journey In life & take my audience for a ride. Whether it’s my pescatarian journey or Pilates journey my audience enjoys the consistency & authenticity I give them. I want to continue reaching a bigger audience and creating content for even bigger brands. My dream brands to work with is Fenty Beauty, Savage X Fenty, M.A.C Cosmetic, Skims, and would even love to collaborate with more resorts to show my audience how to really enjoy their vacation. There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Three qualities I feel that has been the most impactful on my journey is #1 being disciplined. You must always think of your mission and you cannot let anything get in your way. Always remember “Anything you can’t fast from, you’re a slave to”. I always think of this whenever I’m going after a goal. If I want to get fit, this requires me to lock in, exercise, eat healthy & stay dedicated. This also helps if you have people around you that isn’t dedicated to the mission you must create discipline to not fall into the traps that they have to cause you to become distracted. #2 Learning to love myself. Once I learned how to love myself, I learned how to trust myself. I trust myself enough to know I will not fail myself. This is so important because there will be people who do not see your vision or believe in your dreams but the question is do you? And last but not least #3 Is always being open to learning something new. You can never get comfortable with all you know, this is how you become stagnant. I am always reading to learn more, always networking with others to pick their brains and constantly engaging with my audience to learn more than I already do.
How can folks who want to work with you connect?
I am always looking to collaborate with others. I would really like to collaborate with more people in beauty, fashion, the restaurant industry, as well as spas & resorts. My content is all about making people lives easier and finding the luxuries in their lives making it worth living. I know exactly what people want to see & that’s why I know how to create engaging content.
