Meet Cynthia James

We recently connected with Cynthia James and have shared our conversation below.

Cynthia, first a big thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts and insights with us today. I’m sure many of our readers will benefit from your wisdom, and one of the areas where we think your insight might be most helpful is related to imposter syndrome. Imposter syndrome is holding so many people back from reaching their true and highest potential and so we’d love to hear about your journey and how you overcame imposter syndrome.
Imposter syndrome revealed itself first as shyness. It was very easy for me to withdraw my energy and become “invisible.” Then, as I began to have success, I was terrified that people would discover that I was a “fake.” The antidote for that was working hard and making myself irreplaceable.

As I began to study more, I realized that I am a unique imprint. There is no one else like me on the planet. I wrote a list of my gifts and when I would apply for a position or be hired to facilitate, I pulled out my list and read it aloud.

I would also say silent affirmations when I felt insecure. “I am a powerful being” “I am gifted and a beneficial presence”. “I am here for a reason”

Those statements would calm me down and move me to my center where I could give thanks for the opportunity to be present in this moment at this particular place

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I am a multifaceted person. I have authored 5 books, performed and spoken around the world, wrote or co-wrote 7 music and meditation CD’s and coach leaders around the world.

I love inviting people to recognize their greatness, their gifts and their power. I believe we are all here for a reason and have unique ways of operation.

My latest book, “Does My Voice Matter: A Journey of Self Discovery, Authenticity, and Empowerment” is becoming an online course to support people to find their voices.

I am also creating an online community where people can come to be with like minded souls and create powerful lives. Information will be on my website: cynthiajames.net

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
The three qualities that impacted my journey the most.

1. Opening to my creative flow and daring to risk stepping out in the world.
2. Listening to my inner guidance and trusting my path
.3. Being unwilling to give up my dreams no matter the circumstances that appeared.

Awesome, really appreciate you opening up with us today and before we close maybe you can share a book recommendation with us. Has there been a book that’s been impactful in your growth and development?
There is a book “This Thing Called You’ by Ernest Holmes that travels with me. There are many nuggets but here are a few

I surrender all doubt and fear; I let go of uncertainty

I accept the gift of life for myself and everyone else
