We were lucky to catch up with Jasmine Jackson-Lewis recently and have shared our conversation below.
Jasmine, so great to be with you and I think a lot of folks are going to benefit from hearing your story and lessons and wisdom. Imposter Syndrome is something that we know how words to describe, but it’s something that has held people back forever and so we’re really interested to hear about your story and how you overcame imposter syndrome.
Great question! Because, I believe that impostor syndrome is a condition that all business women have suffered from. In the beginning, your anxiety is high. You want to see results and you learn quickly that your dream(s) will not resonate with people as quickly as you would want it to.
It’s going to take a lot more “business transparency” than you may have imagined. If you’re like myself and you handle all of the day to day operations yourself, this may be a challenge at first. Ultimately, you learn it’s not a RACE! It’s a learning experience and process you must go through in order to get to where you want to be. It has been during these stages I have learned to appreciate the self-assurance and confidence I’m developing within my business.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
As mentioned, I am the Owner of Plusher Chic Boutique and Modeling Agency and I’m also a stylist. I’m currently focused on expanding my boutique and finding more opportunities for the models that represent the agency. I recently enrolled into PARSONS Fashion Business College, in hopes of obtaining my certificates in fashion systems, managing fashion, fashion production, fashion branding, and marketing strategies. Therefore, professionally I’m focused on strengthening my skills.
Plusher Chic Boutique, currently offers an array of different garments of clothing for all women. It represents exactly what the name says. Plusher, means luxurious, rich, and expensive. Chic(sheek) means fashionable and stylish. Plusher Chic Boutique represents each of these adjectives in a more affordable way. Through my gift of styling I’m able to display different pieces of clothing I feel represents this as well. I absolutely love it and enjoy seeing my customers display their different ways of wearing the items they have purchased.
As a stylist and agent I enjoy the personal relationships I develop with my client/customer. It gives me a chance to be creative, maintain a fashion style and supervise photo-shoots. Each model displayed on the website is a model signed to the Plusher Chic Modeling Agency.
Plusher Chic Modeling Agency, is a full service modeling agency headquartered in Dallas, Texas and founded in Indianapolis, Indiana. Clients interested in hiring a modeling agency in Dallas, Texas or Indianapolis, Indiana should contact Plusher Chic Modeling Agency at www.plusherchic.com or request information at plusherchicboutique@gmail.com. New models interested in joining Plusher Chic Modeling Agency should apply online via the modeling agency application.
I am currently gearing up for our summer launch. I cannot wait for our customers, friends, and family to see the new-hot clothing and merchandise we have. I recently produced our first single anthem P.L.U.S.H. and I will soon be collaborating and producing a LP geared towards the Plusher Chic Woman AKA Plush Gang!
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Pay attention to detail, remain consistent, and it’s not a race. It’s important for me, as a boutique owner to focus on all areas of fashion no matter how big or small. Doing so has helped me to remain in constant rotation throughout each season. It’s crucial to remain consistent as well, even on the days when you do not feel so. I know sometimes I may not feel I have enough time in a day to post on social media or think people may be tired of seeing our advertisements – it’s at those times it’s important to remain consistent and keep pushing. The “knowledge” that has been the most impactful in my journey is understanding it’s not a race.
Each step forward in my process to get both Plusher Chic Boutique and Modeling Agency where I would want it to be, and should be celebrated as a form of achievement into my professional development. It’s also a time for me to learn from any mistakes. I know like most owners, at first I thought it would be easy to sell my clothing and have models willing to wear and be photographed in Plusher Chic. Let me be the first to tell you, it’s not easy at all.! Things go really slow sometimes. Once you understand that you’re not in a race you will begin to appreciate each step and enjoy the process.
As we end our chat, is there a book you can leave people with that’s been meaningful to you and your development?
“Successful Women Think Differently” by Valorie Burton. I actually received this book as a gift on my birthday from my brother and it has not only been informational it’s also been a way for me to challenge myself in regard to setting the bar higher personally and professionally.
The most valuable or impactful nuggets of wisdom are:
” You have to develop an optimistic thinking style that empowers you to dream higher, bolder dreams, and walk into your vision with confidence.”
“Without self-control we blow our best plans and chances for success”
And I believe this to be true by the readings of “But the fruit of the spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and SELF-CONTROL. -Galatians 5:22-23
