We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Kevin Urguelles a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Kevin , so happy you were able to devote some time to sharing your thoughts and wisdom with our community. So, we’ve always admired how you have seemingly never let nay-sayers or haters keep you down. Can you talk to us about how to persist despite the negative energy that so often is thrown at folks trying to do something special with their lives?
I persist by always talking to myself and always looking toward the future; many people including my parents doubt my progress and fail to see my success, but against all odds, I focus on myself and my ability to continue doing what I’m doing honing on my skillset becoming a better form of myself and what I’m capable of. It is best to always make the nay-sayers as fuel as a spark, a fire within you that will make you fight for what you want to accomplish even more.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
What I do is something special and not many people can commit to it. Racing, not only that but having a talent for graphic design, which helps me throughout my career. My whole start has been up and downhill fighting with the little money I have to continue doing what I’m doing in racing while designing and using my talent to help others in such a small industry. I started at an old age, at the age of 17 I found my passion to race and my drive to get to the upper levels of motorsport has not stopped but has grown since then. I started racing and with racing came people who wanted my designs and I fought to advertise myself and push myself to the limits every day to achieve a goal which is to reach the upper level of motorsport. When that goal is reached my brand kevinudesigns will branch out and I want to be able to help kids in need from all backgrounds who really want to achieve something that not many people are not able to achieve, to achieve the impossible; racing.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Three things that I learned that had the biggest impact on me would be going to a fortunate school that had a graphic design program and I was able to use those skills to my advantage. Secondly, being good with people and being able to have a second language under my belt. Third just learning and finding my true passion of racing and my advice to the younger generation would be to.
Learn young, learn things that you are passionate about, and explore things you would have never thought to explore then you will truly find your true calling.
All the wisdom you’ve shared today is sincerely appreciated. Before we go, can you tell us about the main challenge you are currently facing?
My number one challenge is expanding and finding sponsors It is one of the most difficult things to do, which is to sell yourself and your goals. I push every day to post and advertise and do things that I would have never thought I would be doing to get the attention of companies and people to show that I am worth putting money towards and that I am someone who can make a difference in other people’s lives.
