Meet Rachel Hadari

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Rachel Hadari. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Rachel below.

Rachel, we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.
Six years ago I have left my full and productive life as a fashion designer/educator, following my husband to Boston. On the plane I made a decision ‘not to do anything I have already done’ in my life. This decision, tough, brave, stupid, led me to a journey to discover parts in myself that were unattended. It led to a complete starting over, experimenting and humbling myself to a beginner level anywhere I went. It took all my inner strengths to make this journey. Being a creative all my life, this was my time to explore and discover parts in my artistic practice that had not yet come to light.

I first explored several mediums until in an unexpected class I have discovered clay, fell in love with it, and here I am making sculptural clay pieces.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I have recently established a home studio at my place in Brookline- Ray by Rachel Hadari. After holding a studio in Harvard Ceramic Program in Allston, Ma for a period of time. My rhythm is dictated by the different stages of clay moisture. I love the fluidity of my clay work into my daily life. I have found my purpose. My head (and sketchbook) are full of future projects and ideas. my studio time is the most fulfilling time of the day.

I have set a display area outside the studio, which also get to live with us in our everyday routine in the house.
In the last months I have also dedicated energy into my website rachelhadari.com. This part took a lot of thinking and focusing into my work, intentions, processes.
I realize that other people find connection to my work and the reaction in return energize me. I find myself clarifying my thoughts about getting out there in the world, thinking what is the right way for me to communicate my work.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Easy to say, looking back… Be true to yourself. Always look for the purest form of getting to the place you want
Be brave, don’t be afraid of asking, being a student
Be humble. It’s rewarding.

Is there a particular challenge you are currently facing?
After years of promoting others, mostly creators and designers, I find it challenging to promote myself. I have conquered all the technical obstacles facing when learning a new field. The one sill I am yet to learn is taking the self-promotion to a better level. I love what I do, I want it to have a place in the world.
I have started with the ‘technical’ staff: setting an in-studio show room, setting a website.
Looking forward to the next steps.
