We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Annie Reyes. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Annie below.
Annie, so excited to have you with us today. So much we can chat about, but one of the questions we are most interested in is how you have managed to keep your creativity alive.
As an artist, my creativity thrives through a delicate balance of embracing diversity, cultivating curiosity, celebrating unconventional perspectives, finding solace in nature, engaging with other art forms, and finding profound inspiration in my faith in God. These elements weave together to create a vibrant tapestry of creativity, infusing my art with purpose, meaning, and a connection to something greater than myself.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I’m an artist whose Cuban/Venezuelan blood ignites an unyielding passion for painting. Ever since I was a child, I spent countless hours creating posters for my school classrooms, fueling my love for artistic expression. This led me to pursue Graphic Design in Caracas, Venezuela, later on.
Despite the challenges faced as an immigrant, I never let go of my artistic fire after arriving in the United States in 1999. In 2000, I delved into the world of “Mural Art” at Miami-Dade College. For several years, I dedicated myself to painting murals on commission while simultaneously working in the realms of graphic design and marketing.
However, it was the unprecedented circumstances of the COVID-19 lockdown in 2020 that reignited my need to paint. I picked up my brushes and began creating on cheese boards I had at home. Witnessing the heartfelt smiles that my art brought to people during a time of immense need for joy propelled me forward. Thus, Hivedeco was born, and my creations started making appearances at art and craft fairs in Miami while being commissioned across the United States.
My vision as an artist is simple yet powerful—to create art that brings smiles and fills homes with happiness. Each piece I craft is a reflection of my own joy and zest for life, with the hope of inspiring others to find their own wellspring of happiness and creativity in the world around us.
With every stroke, I leave a piece of myself and my heart in my creations, inviting others to embrace the beauty and joy that art can bring into their lives.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Three key qualities that have greatly influenced my artistic journey are persistence, continuous learning, and authenticity. My advice for aspiring artists is to cultivate resilience and a never-give-up attitude, always seek opportunities for learning and growth, and stay true to their unique artistic voice. Embrace challenges as learning experiences, engage in workshops or courses to expand skills, and infuse their art with personal experiences and emotions. Stay committed, stay curious, and stay true to yourself.
How can folks who want to work with you connect?
