We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Malasurfcartel. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Malasurfcartel below.
Hi Malasurfcartel, we’re so appreciative of you taking the time to share your nuggets of wisdom with our community. One of the topics we think is most important for folks looking to level up their lives is building up their self-confidence and self-esteem. Can you share how you developed your confidence?
Putting myself in uncomfortable situations. The best parts of your life happens when you do the things that you’re not use. You learn and understand more about yourself. Figuring out limits that you never knew were there. I think you should embrace every situation like this. Do the things that you normally wouldn’t do. The roads that you’ll find is way more exciting than the ones you’ve already experienced. My confidence is always building from this approach. I know what I am capable of now but embrace learning and understanding of every situation I go and put myself through.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I am a music producer out of Houston, TX. Grew up playing music since I was a teenager and never really stopped. It’s always been my go to thing. I outgrew video games very young and just deep dived into learning instruments. That was my video game. Production, I didn’t get into until college. I started performing around after college. Playing dj gigs and playing guitar. I am more inclined into the producing side of music now. I like making a song in whole. Performing is great but my art is in the making of the records. There’s meaning behind every song I make and it’s a piece of me each time for sure. I understand that there are people that can’t do what I do, so I do my best to take it very seriously as far as the art of it goes. I draw a lot of inspiration and motivation from artists of different mediums. I don’t think you should always look up to someone who is doing the same medium as you. I look up to artists like Jackson Pollock, Twombly and Basquiat to name a few. These are painters and I’m a musician. But my approach is the art of it.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Having the ear and understanding what sounds right when it comes to music. Good organizational skills because that comes in handy when you start to arrange parts of a song. And already having a love for art. I was always inclined into drawing and photography since young.
For sure take classes if possible. Nowadays you can learn from YouTube or textbooks but having a mentor is always a good thing. You can learn from their techniques and even experiences. So surround yourself in the environment of what you want to become.
All the wisdom you’ve shared today is sincerely appreciated. Before we go, can you tell us about the main challenge you are currently facing?
For the types of records I produce is the performing arts part of it. The music I make is practically in a band format. Rock music. You need a band to perform these songs. I have an idea of how to do it all on my own without the need of others to help me perform it, I just have to work on it so I can start putting myself out there but that is an obstacle/challenge that I am working on. Having to rely on others to accomplish something is something I do not like to get into. I am an individual that loves to get things done on my own because I am in control and can knock it out quickly.
