We recently connected with Rich Flow and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Rich, we’re so appreciative of you taking the time to share your nuggets of wisdom with our community. One of the topics we think is most important for folks looking to level up their lives is building up their self-confidence and self-esteem. Can you share how you developed your confidence?
Life had a way of choosing my circumstances for me. I discovered confidence through decision making and discernment after wanting better for myself. Realizing that all of the answers are already inside of me, I knew with having a healthy self esteem came with a happier outlook on life. Rather than being right or wrong, the more I chose what was best for me, the sooner my dreams and goals came to fruition.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
By profession I’m a songwriter, musician and poet. I also own a performance arts company called Lets Link Later which provides platform for the kids and creatives of my community. The special part about creating from scratch is enduring the luxury of originality. Either it be a song, script or show your granted the chance of being the first person to take the approach you choose, and that’s what motivates me most. Arts and entertainment has been socially and personally apart of my upbringing since grade school, and it’s helped me evolve countless times as a risk taker. This year I’m working on releasing new music for my fans, as well as publishing my first motivational quote book. I’m also planning to tour and perform in a few cities that I’ve yet visit.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
I think the importance of consolidating my purpose, passion, and profession has been conducive to how I center myself within in my career these days. All three of these entities add significant value to the idea of who I am, what I’ve done, and where I plan to go next. I was able to find what keeps me grounded through my purposes because of how inescapable my mission has been. I was able to grasp a sense of self through passion, because my emotions and feelings showed me I matter. And lastly I was at least lucky enough to learn what I’m best at, at a young age which eventually transitioned into a profession for me.
What’s been one of your main areas of growth this year?
Over the past year, my most impactful area of growth has been transparency. I found a way to open up about my woes, without it being musically inclined or creative. I chose therapy for the first time in my life and it gave me room to be vulnerable, honest, and distant enough to gain an understanding of my childhood trauma and social anxiety. Since feeling more optimistic about therapy and counseling, I’ve recognized the positive shifts in how I show up for myself, speak up for myself and represent myself. Not only in front of others but also in front of the mirror.
