Meet Danielle Holcomb

We recently connected with Danielle Holcomb and have shared our conversation below.

Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Danielle with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?
My work ethic has developed overtime and from many different circumstances. The biggest factor was finding a business I was truly passionate about. If you are not working for something that feeds your soul and gives you pride, than what is driving you to want to create the best result possible? Resilience also plays a large part when it comes to work ethic. You will have people that don’t see, or doubt, your vision. There will be times where you feel overworked and overwhelmed. It is in those moments, where your confidence in your self and your businesses mission, that will continue to drive your work ethic because deep down you know your dream is worth it and you can achieve anything you put your mind to. When I was young, I did not have the same work ethic I have now. I had to find a passion I could funnel my energy into and the work ethic came with it. I suddenly could not wait to wake up the next day and work. I used watch the clock constantly counting down the minutes until I got to leave work. Now, I get lost in it because watching the changes my company makes to peoples lives brings me so much joy. Before you know it, you start to see your work ethic develop and see the ripples in the industry, as well as the joy in your client’s eyes, that your passion can create.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
My name is Danielle Holcomb and I own and operate Before Ever After Co. Weddings and Events. As a graduate from Penn State Business School, my passion for business was nurtured and developed during my time at school. I was able to take the skills learned there, along with everything learned through life lessons and self development excursions, and apply it to a field of business based on true love, the wedding industry! From a very young age, I have perceived weddings as magical moments. Creating a business where I get to not only feed my own love of love, but be in the presence of other’s love, was the clearest decision I have ever made. Working in an environment where I can use to knowledge of business while making someone else’s wedding day dreams come true, is the most fulfilling position I could ever hope to be in! I believe that is directly reflected in my company and team’s work.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
1) Know that you can always learn more. You can learn that people perceive things in a way you wouldn’t have considered. You can learn more effective ways to complete a task. You can learn so much from others if you keep your ears open and that education is free! 2) Create goal list with deadlines. What goals do you have? How do you achieve it? Break it down in to steps and give each step a deadline. The deadlines will hold you accountable, and being able to check goals off of a physical list will be proof to yourself that you are on you way to achieve your dreams.
3) If you and your business are experiencing a difficult time, know that the growth that comes from that situation will only make you better and stronger in your field. Michael Jordan did not make his high school basket ball team. If he didn’t have the determination to work past that hard time, he wouldn’t be the most amazing player in the game.

Awesome, really appreciate you opening up with us today and before we close maybe you can share a book recommendation with us. Has there been a book that’s been impactful in your growth and development?
I feel like I need to start by saying a read alot. A book I recommend to my business owner friends is called “Overnight success” by Maria Hatzistefanis. It is refreshing and reminder that everyone starts somewhere, but that you also need to value yourself throughout the process of building a business. That it is just as important to prioritize your health as it is to throw yourself in to your work. Another book I recommend to people who don’t really know where to start who may not have a business yet is “Mindset” by Carol Dweck. Mindset was recommended to me by a previous employer. He probably had no idea it was the pivotal moment that made me realize if I change my way of thinking, I can achieve anything.
