We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Tiara Ivette. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Tiara below.
Hi Tiara, thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?
My work ethic definitely comes from my fear of disappointing my friends and family. I always felt this pressure that I had to “make it” because of the talents God gave me. To an extent I do think it’s true, it would be terrible to let talents go to waste. On the other side of the coin my work ethic comes from personal achievement. I love when I take an idea and bring it to life and when others like my ideas as well it helps me to keep going.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I like to say I’m an artist because naming everything that I do would just be too much. Growing up I’ve always been pretty multifaceted, from dance to art to fashion so when I created my brand and business it didn’t come as a surprise to anyone. My focus lately has been my clothing brand House of Venom & my styling and creative directing business By Tiara Ivette. Both businesses allow me to thrive in what I like to do. Getting to bring my vision to life or bring someone else’s vision to life with my help just feels amazing and the outcome is always so beautiful. I just celebrated 5 years with my brand House of Venom and I’m excited to drop more pieces in the future, right now I’m looking at the summer and swim season I’d like to drop more swimwear.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Being confident is one quality that I think everyone no matter what your journey or what your selling should obtain. When you’re confident you tell your audience what they’ll like, when you believe in yourself they will follow right behind. Consistency is another one that I am learning now, I took a year and a half off from my business and in that time there was something new so it felt like I almost had to reintroduce myself. For those early in their journey I would say give yourself grace and stick to what YOU like. Trends will come and go but a classic will always be there. Don’t succumb to the pressure of what your business should “feel like” long as you’re doing what you’re supposed to your tribe will find you.
What has been your biggest area of growth or improvement in the past 12 months?
For the last year I’ve worked on trusting myself and my ideas and doing what I say I will do. Once I got serious about what I wanted to do God sent me the tools that I needed. I definitely see growth in my confidence and consistency and how it will benefit me in the future.
