We recently connected with David Timothy and have shared our conversation below.
David, we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.
My journey to discovering my purpose in music was a tapestry woven with threads of faith, familial support, and personal determination. As a young boy, I stumbled upon the sheer joy of creating music by fiddling with the piano keys in our two-bedroom apartment on the south side of Stockholm and banging on pots and pans on the floor of the kitchen as my mom made breakfast for the two of us. These simple acts filled me with an immense sense of fulfillment, but it wasn’t until the age of nine that I truly began to take music seriously.
It was then that my mother, recognizing my budding passion, encouraged me to join the church choir and start drum lessons. These experiences ignited a fire within me, two flames that still burn brightly to this day. From that point on, I realized that music was more than just a hobby—it was my calling.
However, the path to pursuing my passion was not always clear. Despite my deep-seated love for music, I found myself swayed by the voices of doubt that whispered, “There’s no money in music” and “You need to get a real job.” Succumbing to societal pressure, I briefly explored other avenues, attending a business high school in search of a more “practical” path.
Yet, amidst the clatter of calculators and textbooks, a quiet voice within me yearned for something more. It was in a moment of prayer that I found clarity. God spoke to me, urging me to embrace my true purpose. With newfound resolve, I transferred to one of Stockholm’s premier music schools, ready to walk the path I had always known was meant for me.
Throughout this journey, my mother stood as my unwavering beacon of support. Despite my stubbornness, she never wavered in her belief that music was my destiny. Her sacrifices and encouragement propelled me forward, even when doubts threatened to derail my dreams.
But doubts did come, whispering insidious questions: “Am I good enough?” “Who cares about my message?” “Can I really impact the world?” Yet, with each doubt, I turned to prayer, finding strength in my relationship with God. As my faith grew, so did my determination to pursue greatness.
Even after facing setbacks in college, I refused to be deterred from my path. Since that transformative moment at the age of fifteen, nothing could shake my resolve. Music is and will always be my true purpose, filling my life with joy and peace. Through faith, family support, and unwavering determination, I have found my purpose, and I am living it every day.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Reflecting on my journey, I’ve identified four key elements that have played a significant role in shaping my path:
1. **Genuine Passion**: Right from the start, having a real love for what I do and a strong determination to make it happen set me on the right track. It’s super important for anyone starting out to find that spark inside them and stick with it, no matter what.
2. **Rolling with the Punches**: Being able to handle whatever comes my way and bounce back from tough times has been key. For newcomers, being able to adapt and bounce back from setbacks helps keep the journey going, even when things get rough.
3. Adaptability and Resilience: Flexibility in navigating unforeseen challenges and resilience in bouncing back from setbacks have been crucial to my journey. For those embarking on their own paths, fostering adaptability and resilience empowers them to weather the uncertainties inherent in any pursuit.
4. **Serving Rather Than Being Served**: Understanding the importance of serving others rather than focusing solely on personal gain has been a game-changer. We’re all here to support each other, and when you approach your journey with a mindset of service, it not only enriches your interactions but also opens doors to new opportunities and connections.
In the early stages of ones journey, focusing on these things can really help:
– **Find What Lights You Up**: Spend time exploring different things until you find something that really excites you and keeps you going.
– **Roll with the Changes**: Stay open to whatever comes your way and don’t let setbacks stop you from moving forward.
– **Keep Growing**: Take time to think about what you’re doing and look for ways to get better at it. That way, you’ll keep getting better and better as you go along.
– **Serve Others**: Remember that success isn’t just about what you can get for yourself, but also about how you can contribute to the success and happiness of others. By serving others with kindness and generosity, you’ll find fulfillment and build meaningful relationships along the way.
By keeping these things in mind, newbies can start their journey with confidence, knowing they’ve got what it takes to make it happen.
What was the most impactful thing your parents did for you?
The text provides a touching insight into the impactful experiences with both your mother and father, but it could benefit from a more structured flow and some additional details to enhance engagement. Here’s a revised version:
—
Growing up, my upbringing was shaped significantly by the absence of my father, who was deported to Nigeria from Sweden before I was born. Consequently, I was primarily raised by my mother, who became my primary source of guidance and support.
From my mother, I learned invaluable lessons in faith and self-assurance. Despite the challenges we faced as a single-parent household, she instilled in me strong Godly values and a sense of confidence that would prove to be foundational in my life. Her unwavering faith and daily affirmation, including reading the Bible with me and speaking life over me, played a pivotal role in shaping my faith journey. Her encouragement bolstered my self-esteem and served as a shield against the dark clouds of self-doubt and depression that threatened to engulf me at times.
While my mother provided me with a strong spiritual foundation, it was my father who taught me the importance of resilience and hard work. Meeting him for the first time at the age of ten, I was inspired by his journey of starting anew in America with nothing and building a successful car dealership from the ground up. His example showed me the value of perseverance and dedication, instilling in me a work ethic that would guide me in my own pursuits.
Although I sometimes wish I had the opportunity to learn from my father earlier in life, I am grateful for the time I spent with him and the lessons he imparted. His story serves as a beacon of hope and motivation, reminding me that with determination and hard work, anything is possible. His journey continues to inspire me to pursue my dreams relentlessly and to never give up, no matter the obstacles I may face.
In summary, both my mother and father have played integral roles in shaping the person I am today. From my mother, I gained faith and confidence, while my father taught me resilience and the value of hard work. Their influence continues to guide me as I navigate life’s challenges and strive to fulfill my dreams.
