Meet Dylan Stevens

We recently connected with Dylan Stevens and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Dylan , thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?
I owe my mindset regarding hard work/work ethic in large part to my parents. Growing up, I watched my parents work day in and day out while also still having time to attend my school events and sports games. Seeing my parents go through their own struggles in life and come out on top reinforces the value of hard work and consistency in my eyes.

Similarly, my great-grandfather, my uncles & grandmother always reinforced the value of hard work & self discipline. All of their support has allowed me to achieve as much as I have thus far in life.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
My name is Dylan Stevens, and I am a paranormal investigator. I got into investigations at the age of 12, with this May being my 10th year in the field. It combines three subjects I love- history, traveling, & the paranormal, and without ghost hunting I would’ve never had the opportunity to visit so many historic locations around the US & Canada. We only started on YouTube just under 2 years ago, after working with creators Sam & Colby, and having the opportunity to be featured on the Travel Channel’s “Destination Fear” a couple of times.

On top of working with Haunted Nights, I have my own brand, “Ghost Generation”. I made it with the understanding that just a generation or two ago, people could be institutionalized or ostracized for exploring the paranormal and other taboo topics. Today, ghost hunting is prevalent on all forms of media- social media, television, etcetera. I also have a set of core values that I strive to live by to be “Built Different”, available on my website www.ghost-generation.com . This year, I seek to expand my content creation, with my a secondary channel focused around all other aspects of my life outside of ghost hunting, and a regular live streaming & podcast schedule as I settle into a new space.

Further- I serve in the Army Reserves as a Sergeant, enlisting my junior year of high school in 2019 and going through basic in the midst of COVID in 2020. I’ve always wanted to be in the service, and the Army Reserves allows me to pursue my civilian career while also serving my country.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
One huge quality that has allowed me to achieve my goals in the past is self discipline. Having the ability to hold myself accountable, push my boundaries and expand my horizons has allowed me to achieve a number of things- from earning a first dan black belt in taekwondo, to the rank of sergeant in the army.

Another quality that has allowed me to make connections and forge friendships is empathy. Being empathetic/understanding others situations, working to be the best version of myself, and lift up others around me has allowed me to make fantastic friendships over the years & allows me to challenge myself and put myself in others’ shoes.

Finally, having confidence is paramount to success. Growing up, I struggled with confidence issues but the old adage “fake it till you make it” certainly has value! Stepping outside of my comfort zone has allowed me to see that a lot of the fears I had were unfounded. Over the past 4 years, I have worked on consistently stepping outside of my comfort zone and challenging myself.

All of this starts with a clear heading- knowing your goals, where you want to end up, and a rough understanding of how to get there. The rest will fall into place with discipline and hard work,

Alright, so before we go we want to ask you to take a moment to reflect and share what you think you would do if you somehow knew you only had a decade of life left?
One huge challenge I am currently facing is developing content on my own. I am very critical of myself, and though I want to branch out and begin making more content on different topics, I have been apprehensive to take the first step.

I love history, and want to share more stories regarding my time in the military, my time hiking, and time in the gym, but I often find myself rewatching previously filmed content, just to delete it or save it for another day.
