We were lucky to catch up with Laurice Lambert recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Laurice with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?
I think my work ethic is innate — when I was young, I remember that I would come right home from school and do my homework, in my room, at my desk, without anyone asking me. I would not go out and play until all my homework was complete. I think it also comes from a fear of failure that I have been working on the past few years with my coach, Jessica Joines. I have also always wanted to succeed on my own — I want financial freedom and have worked hard to position myself for the sky to be the limit.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I am a creative and mission-driven healthcare business attorney who thinks like an executive. I have spent over 15 years in the healthcare industry between consulting and law, and am building a boutique, women owned and led, law firm, Health Law Strategists (HLS), to help shift the consciousness of the legal industry. My true purpose is to inspire others, from other attorneys, to clients, to friends in other industries, to take a leap of faith and bet on themselves.
HLS is designed to be different. Our women-founded, people-centered, boutique legal + strategy firm is a team with more than 90 years of sophisticated health law and strategic planning and growth experience. Our practice allows us greater flexibility to provide value and tailor our services to the evolving needs of our clients. Our team has extensive background in a variety of healthcare legal settings – as equity partners in some of the world’s largest multidisciplinary law firms, as general counsel to a top 100 fastest growing health-tech company, as outside general counsel to a 90+ member hospital association, and as legal and executive director for the lead health planning agency in Georgia.
HLS represents hospitals and health systems, integrated payor-provider systems, specialty pharmacy providers, digital health companies, health technology companies, physicians, and other ancillary services providers. We particularly enjoy working with early-stage healthcare companies that are innovating and transforming the healthcare landscape.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
The qualities/skills most impactful: – Having faith over fear (I wear a necklace that has the word “faith” over the word “fear”) and trusting my gut
– I am very intuitive and empathic, and being able to read people and connect on a deeper level is my “super power”.
– Work ethic – I refuse to give up, and I “don’t do failure” — but I’ve always known that HLS would not fail because I am living my true purpose building this business.
What advice to I have:
– Listen to your heart, not year head.
– Trust your gut.
– If you are following your heart and doing what you love, abundance will come to you.
If you knew you only had a decade of life left, how would you spend that decade?
In addition to being an entrepreneur, I am a wife and mom of three beautiful and wonderful children, ages 7, 5, and 3. And for better or worse, because of my work ethic and how much success we are having, I am working too much right now and it is taking away from my ability to enjoy quality time with my family.
I am working hard to scale our business thoughtfully, but when you run a services business sometimes you have to hire people to support you before you have enough work to fill up their plate. However, I truly believe if we build the firm, clients will continue to come and so I need to build the team so I can focus on my highest and best use — which is building the business, recruiting team members, and bringing in clients.
